i have the samsung 50in dlp and i love it...great price too, check out conns, they are only place you can actually negotiate at, people are skeptical of the place but ive had no problems and i got a great deal.
so I got the samsung hls6187w tv at circuit city for 2700 after taxes today after a discounted price match, a manager at a diff location was willing to go down more on the tv. its sitting in my living room right now and it looks great getting the sat hooked up on monday. its going to be great!
yoyo, dont forget to calibrate your tv, you can buy a calibration dvd . basically it ensures that your colors are correct cause factor settings are wrong. you want Will Smith to look african american, not purple. also i can recommend you some good components like dvds, receivers, speakers, etc. this is what i do, i serve my fellow clutchfans!
hate to be nerdy, but the Grand Wega is not a DLP. its something called LCD rear projection. specifically 3LCD is what your TV has. its similar to DLP. DLP is slightly sharper while the 3LCD has brighter colors. http://www.3lcd.com/index.html
Thanks for the clarification, you are right. The earlier comments had me confused vis a vis the LCD/DLP/projection connection, because I was almost going to argue that I had a LCD DLP projection set. It's a great TV and with the built in integrated tuner and a cheap Radio Shack antenna I pull in tons of digital channels from Austin and Waco.
Right now I have an hd upconversion dvd player by sony, a panasonic 5.1 audio system i dont have a calibration dvd can I pick one of those up at a best buy or circuit city? at least for right now i dont plan to upgrade any of the other components since they work great for me right now, maybe in the future after i pay this off i will start upgrading the rest. oh but thats not to say i wont get either a ps3 or an xbox 360 w/ hd-dvd rom when they are available thanks for all the help. I cant wait to get home from work tonight to start firing up the bad boy
i use this dvd: http://www.videoessentials.com/DVD_NTSC.php you seem all set. you may in the future when have some more cash upgrade to a high end receiver and high end speakers... and of course a massive sub! did u get hd cable from time warner? make sure you buy HDMI cables.
cool thanks, i am getting one of dish networks' hd packages and i have one hdmi cable and just ordered two more yesterday online
I didn't want to start a new thread but needed some advice. I'm torn between the HL67A750 and the LN52A650. I'll be using it mostly for blu-ray movies and PS3 gaming. Heeeeeeelp!!
Brother in law has the 61" Samsung DLP. Nice tv and he has nothing but good things to say. Even though DLP might not be around much longer, I'd go with the larger screen.
1. wall mount or no wall mount? 2. size? 67 > 52 3. price review HL67A750 http://reviews.cnet.com/projection-tvs/samsung-hl61a750/4505-6484_7-32915921.html?tag=mncol;lst $1799 at circuit city? that's cheap! review LN52A650 http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-ln52a650/4505-6482_7-32887597.html?tag=mncol;lst $2399 Both would be fine for games/bluray
DLP will be around for awhile, they've moved their focus to larger sized tvs that lcd and plasma cannot compete with in price. 61', 67', 73' etc
Wall mounting isn't a huge deal. I went to fry's today and i looked at both of them. I couldn't adjust any of the settings how I wanted to though. I ended up staring at the 67" longer than the 52 because the sheer size was just WOW. The picture quality AT THE STORE appeared that the 52" was better but not by much. The 52" has the 120hz feature? is that what was giving it the kind of odd look to the movies or is that something else? I kind of like it but what is it really used for? I heard that motion enhancement feature was used primarily for sport which I do watch a lot of.
oh my bad, you're right. the 61in one is the one that is reviewed, because its the same family as the 67, the performance is the same, so its the same tv only bigger. the video reviews for both are good.
Go with the LCD. The 120hz auto-motion makes a world of a difference when watching blu-rays and HD programming (sports, movies, etc...). The difference is huge when you compare the DLP and LCD with the 120hz auto-motion on. Go check out a blu-ray demo on the Sammy LN650/750 series at Best Buy or on a Sony LCD at the Sony store. Sony LCD's also have the 120hz, so essentially you'll get an idea of how your Samsung will look like as well. The DLP's simply cannot match that HD picture that the LCD's give out with the 120hz on.
you can get DLPs with the 120hz and actually the DLPs have a 240hz prototype. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102190 also when you compare 67inch vs 52inch. its still 67 vs 52. the 120hz is meant to smooth out sports etc, not movies, but the stores always have some movies on there like Pirates of the Caribbean. if you crank up their motion smoothing too much the movie is unwatchable cause the movement is unnaturally smooth.
oh and the 61 inch model I purchased I LOVE IT. granted its not a 120hz model and just a 60hz but i absolutely love it. Almost coming up on two years now since i purchased it. best bday gift ever given to myself. anyways i agree with tinman on the POTC 120hz smoothing i saw it on demo at a best buy and while it looked cool to see how real it seemed it made the movie really unwatchable. i could watch it for like 2-3 minutes and be impressed but then afterwards it just seem weird to watch. and i would only get the lcd if price wasnt a factor and space is an issue. if you have space for the DLP then get the dlp and save some bucks, use the extra savings to upgrade your surround sound system. just make sure you have good hd sources and proper connections and your picture will look great. most of friends who have large (47+) plasmas/lcd prefer watching sports on my DLP they say it looks better. either way i am glad you are purchasing a nice HDTV either way
I'm looking to buy a 42 inch plasma: The Samsung series 6 is awesome but too much for my budget so here are my options: Panasonic (not sure about model) $1,299 Visio (not sure about model) $1,399 Samsung series 5: $1,499 Which one should I get?
Umm... Well so since this thing is bumped... Tinman, have you changed your bulb yet? Anyone every change their bulb? Seems to take longer than I expected.
