    Too right!

We were second best last year, and have already added Artest...

wave the player = 0 return.

Trade for a player that does not have contract = trade exception?

Is Weis's contract equivalent to 0 for trade purposes?

Still, accordng to the NY Post, the Rockets were not interested in Weis and was did the trade as a favor to Ewing Sr.

As I said before, it may also be a favor to Donnie Walsh, who had some interest in the kid and probably doesn't mind paying him 200K to take a look at him at camp.

Anyhow, it's not consequential from a basketball point of view, but a smart move to get some good will (and it's a good thing to get some good will when you can. The NBA is a small village, you want to be liked by your peers. These small gestures add up).

Yeah but the point guard position is easily our weakest cover.

Adding a DJ Strawberry, or someone like Antonio Daniels or Damien Wilkins will help stuff Deron Williams and other stronger point guards.

$0 was Ewing's contract value on Friday. $0 is Weis' contract value and will always will be if he stay's on his current course. Therefore, the trade works.

Now if we just cut Ewing we would have the same $ outcome but Ewing would lose his guarantee money (begins on Monday) and would most likely show up to someone's camp for free (most likely NY's). Then if he's cut, he get $0. I see this as a favor to the Ewings from both the Rocket's and NY's view point.

I haven't heard of any trade exception to be created by this move for Weis.

Unless the Rockets suddenly decide to bring him over, Weis is worth nothing, I think.

Ewing's contract was worth ~$442K on Friday. It's just not guaranteed.

ewing was moved via the min salary exception. no trade exceptions are generated out of that.

People need to stop over analyzing this minor move. It was a salary dump and a favor to ewing since he worked with the rockets before. Weiss will never play in the nba cause he was drafted in 1999 when ewing jr was 14 years old.

The contract value as far as the league was concerned on Friday was 0. On Monday, it would have counted for some value because part of that would be guaranteed. And since both teams are over the cap, he could not have been traded for nothing (Weis' option which has 0 value) unless a TE was used which I don't think happened.

This makes more sense than saying Ewing's salary was worth $0 in the trade.

Ewing's salary was worth $442K for trading purposes, just like it was when he was traded along w/ Artest.

This trade did a few things, 1) saved money 2) gave Ewing Jr. a nice situation 3) and had a humor factor cause it was the guy that got dunked on. lol only if we traded for stewie...

This move is nothing more than a way for Morey to clear roster space. Our roster is already loaded with 14 guaranteed contracts...and that doesn't include Dikembe or Landry. Since NBA rosters are only allowed 15 players on the roster this move had to be done to reduce the number of players in the potential roster pool.
