My friend works at an Ohio hospital where most of the nurses and staff are moderate republicans. He's been feeling out their views on various topics and here's what they were expressing overall.... On Obama: Feel that he is a bit shifty and they don't trust him. My friend suspects there is a latent racism against him but they aren't willing to admit it. They say they are generally undecided or on the fence but he thinks secretly they lean McCain. On Obama's speech: Were generally impressed. The most impressive line was about abortion - saying that even though we disagree we can agree that we can try to minimize abortions and make them uncessary. they really liked that - even the pro-lifers. On the VP pick of Palin: women were offended and strongly irritated when my friend said kind words about Palin. Surprisingly, the biggest thing was the fact that she has young children, "How can a mother of young children commite to being president???? What about the responsibility of caring for those children?" Now this might because they are nurses of course. They also didn't buy the Palin has more experience than Obama, and were also offended that McCain would think that selecting a woman would get their vote. Overall, said they will not vote and might consider Obama, but the woman wouldn't vote for McCain, men were more on the fence and didn't seem like they would vote for Obama.
I have been trying to tell people that women will feel this way about a 5 month old infant with downs syndrome. McCain's judgment is crap just like him! His jokes about women being raped and calling an 18 year old Chelsea Clinton ugly have tipped the boat on him for me. He is slim in the ice machine!

If you don't think his character is part of the debate...then exactly what are you voting on? Oh, my bad...STRAIGHT PARTISANSHIP! His character sucks to make terrible jokes about an 18 year old girl being ugly, not to mention that at the time she was our president's daughter. I know that may sound offensive, but just put more thought and less hate into your posts. McCain is not some horrible guy, and even if he was, your repetitive, divisive posts have more in common with Trader_J than they do honest, respectful discussion. I know, ouch. Sorry. On the topic of the OP, I was very surprised in talking with my 73 year old mom yesterday, via phone. I thought she'd find Palin appealing, but she too had that "how can a mother of five, with a little baby no less, think she can campaign and then go to Washington DC?" I said, "Well mom, plenty of men with small children have run, and are running." She said it's totally different, in her mind at least. To me, I don't see any negative for Palin being a mom of 5, including a small one. It's totally sexist to ding her for that, IMO. By the way, on the Chelsea topic, she's really recovered from her homely phase, IMO. I'm not saying she's drop dead hawt, but you have to admit she's come a long way.
Yeah, I don't get it. Perhaps women are bitter a bit that they sacraficed so much careerwise for their kids - to see Palin with small children run for VP makes them mad? It's so strange, my parents like Palin and are leaning toward McCain/Palin over Obama. I was surprised by that because they loved Clinton and like Hillary too. Of course, my parents are senior citizens.
First, I really don't care about what you think about my posts whether you support Obama or McCain..that's irrelevant to me. But even after you gave your pathetic reasons why, after mispelling my moniker intentionally, you then proved my points that I have been arguing by stating how your grandmother basically agreed with me, even though you only see what you think is correct; not recognizing the position of others like your grandmother that I was speaking about. The only thing we agree upon it seems is voting for Obama and that Chelsea is a little more than decent at this point in her life!

Now this is an issue where we have a bipartisan consensus. This guy has so far contributed nothing and puts nothing into his posts. That just lowers the quality of the BBS. So many of us have put so much time and effort into crafting excellent posts over the years, it would be nice if our new visitors (rocketsanalyist, tmac_1, guerrilla black, rockets3forlife2) would respond with a similar level of quality. So far they have not. Their posting diarrhea just turns this into a weaker BBS.

(maybe you are not truly self-righteous and hypocritical) If it is truly an act, you can work on your presentation so the line isn’t so confused and we can take your contributions tongue and cheek, like this fellow…. And not taking measures to halt the spread of wars, poverty, disease, lack of health care and bad medicine (e.g., back alley abortions) don’t kill persons? Including innocents? Yet you have pretty much said yourself the only issue that matters to you is abortion. So you would ignore good medical practice because of 1 personal experience? Births can happen within the hour or over 24 hrs later--that is why they call the mom to be in pronto. In fact OBGYNs get very testing if the baby hasn’t been delivered 24 hours after the water breaking because of the risk of infection. It was a pretty crazy (and def brought risks to the unborn baby) for her to get on that flight. Seems particularly odd to condone that behavior for someone who has stated the unborn baby is the only thing important to you. But maybe we are all just part of the female genitalia crowd, as you like to say... Odd again to use that as an insult, but then you feel an absolute right to control in the opposite sex because they are life bearing spiritual organs. Something doesn't compute with you. But again maybe your efforts are just an exercise to provoke, and then I hope the time I took to cut and paste makes it clear for the BBS.
