It was Houston, Texas, correct? And she flew from there to Alaska after her water broke? I'm still waiting for someone to tell me this is a joke. And I'm sorry if I don't think your comment is funny, which I'm sure was your intention. Houston has one of the top medical centers in the world. In fact, people fly to Houston's medical center for treatment from around the globe for a host of illnesses. But that really doesn't matter. What matters is that a woman would make a flight like that after her water broke. I find that incredible and simply can't imagine a woman about to give birth doing such a thing. And just to be clear, I have two children of my own, both delivered by natural childbirth. No drugs taken by my wife, although I could have used some! ;)

edit: Just read the above. Thanks for the quotes. I still find it incredible. Actually, what it says about her judgement isn't pretty.

I hate to believe rumors, but the circumstantial evidence to support this rumor is adding up quickly! The fact that they have no come out and said that her daughter is pregnant and therefore couldn't have been baby Trig's mother is a FALSE PREMISE! It has been long enough for her to be pregnant again...and they are offering no proof of how far alone she is; but rather saying "leave us alone for our privacy"...a sure sign in politics that there is more to hide.

I have children born that are only 13 months apart, and I have enough of them to know that you surely dont take a damn 8 hour or more trip after your water breaks during a speech, from Dallas to Alaska, with a stop over in Seattle..and then go to some small clinic to deliver a baby instead of a major medical facility when you KNOW THAT YOU ARE DELIVERING A BABY WITH DOWNS SYNDROME. That is just BS.

I will leave the medical experts to argue over whether she was putting her newborn infant's life in peril or not.

But his clearly shows she has a lack of judgment. Palin had the opportunity to have her child be a Texan by birthright and opted against it. I'm sorry but her judgement just isn't sound.

(Please not I included one of each spelling for the word 'judgment' )

I just went to tell my wife about this. She's an executive with the state who sometimes has to fly a lot, depending on the legislative cycle and what she's working on. She reminded me of something I had forgotten. At 7 months, her doctor told her that she should stop flying. She had been planning to go out of town and asked him about it. Her doctor said the risk of something happening while on the flight was something she should consider, as well as the fact that if her water broke and she went into labor, she would end up having the baby with a bunch of strangers in a hospital out of town, assuming nothing happened on the aircraft. So he advised against it at 7 months. So Palin flew to Houston to give a speech at 8 months, her water broke, and then she flew from Houston to Alaska, a flight that stopped in Seattle?

I sorry if her supporters don't like hearing this, but that says a hell of a lot about her judgement, or lack of it, that isn't pretty. In fact, it's incredibly poor judgement that she would do that.

I would think that air travel is very dangerous for any expectant mother after the second tri-mester. The change in pressure upon takeoff and landing alone could cause some problems for the mother i.e. pre-mature birth. However, I couldn't imagine the pain both the mother and child would be going thru during take-off and landing.

Are you a doctor? If not, you are woefully underqualified to comment on this non-event. Know your role, brah

Don't attempt to complicate things. I really don't care that much about the behavior of the rest of her kids, which I think is none of our business. This story about her infant and a trip to Houston, where her water breaks, and then her flying all the way back to Alaska in that condition, certainly is pertinent, however, in that it speaks to an amazing lack of good judgement, in my opinion.

That falls in line with what I've typically heard. Generally, the safest time to fly while pregnant is during the 2nd trimester but it's advisable to not fly during the 3rd trimester.

PS. - Her speech at the Republican Governors Convention was in Dallas, not Houston.

The strangest part to me is that once landing in Alaska, she would drive past hospitals in Anchorage to a small regional clinic that doesn't even have a neonatal ICU. It doesnt make any sense. And for the daughter to get pregnant while on a 5 to 8 month medical home stay for mono??

Sidenote: check out the jersey on his (future sister-in-law?)

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess she could have found good medical care in Dallas! ;)

I still doubt the accuracy of the story as it has been told. There are many things about it that just don't add up. Generally, airlines will not allow you to fly if you appear to be in a late term pregnancy.

What gets me is that people in this thread talk about Alaska as though it were still in the 19th century. That is funny to me.

That gives her points with me. If she was wearing a jersey with 34 on it, I would have voted for Palin, no questions asked.

You don't have to be a doctor to know that a pregnant woman shouldn't travel in the third trimester. Most people that have had kids know this because they are told so. Also, if you have had kids you know what happens once a woman's water breaks. YOU DO NOT GO GET ON A PLANE ESPECIALLY FOR A 9+ HOUR FLIGHT! This doesn't even take into account that the baby has Down's and that the mother is 40+ making it a super duper high risk pregnancy.

No matter how you slice it or try to spin it, it doesn't make any freaking sense. Period.

edit: We also may not know all of the facts and they are definitely subject to change. What we know how is highly suspect.

I agree that it doesn't add up, which makes it even more damning if true, and amounts to a lot of eggs on some faces if not. I don't think Alaska is backwards re medical care. That isn't/wasn't the point.

Complicating it or not, this smells terrible on all test levels.

The least she can be accused of is HORRIBLE JUDGMENT!

The worst is lying to cover up that it IS her daughter's child, and then lying again that her daughter is pregnant now to divert attention before the election.

While the worst may seem like political theater..how many people thought the Enquirer articles about John Edwards could possibly be true? I could name many more about politicians. The fact exists that people out there will make extreme lies when in power because they think they can get away with it no matter how ridiculous it is.

That being said...I'm reserving final conclusion until more comes out, which it most certainly will. But the story about her giving birth goes against everything I know for a man that has 9 kids!
