I have heard of her nickname as well..Mrs. Barracuda, so I'm sure she is looking forward to doing well against Biden. That is clear by her statements in the video. The challenge will be will her experience against small time Alaskan candidates go over well nationally against a veteran politician like Biden. I don't know and I am not saying it won't, but I can't wait to see. I think the Dems are more concerned about seeming to hard on her. So yes, I think they want her to be very aggressive so they can play tit for tat, win or lose. They don't want to offend women just by being hard on her. That is their biggest concern in my opinion. So I think Biden is hoping that she opens up a can of whip ass on him. He is a very good attack dog on his own. Trust me, they Dems will do a better job than anyone on this board in looking up her history and finding weak spots in her on issues. The issue will not be how she does in what she is comfortable in, the issue will be in how she does in issues she isn't comfortable with, isn't prepared for, or had no idea would be discussed. If she can handle those, she might win the debate. But her margin of error is very small since she is unknown. If she has one major fumble, the experience issue will overtake her other strengths, imho.
I agree......however it is typically the President who sets the foreign policy agenda and not the VP, I think in these discussions lately we have been giving the VP's way too much power.
There is a VERY BIG difference here. Obama has had almost two years to make his points on almost every issue clear and to gain confidence of his supporters and change many minds. Her initial approval rating was only 39%, the lowest since Dan Quayle. She only has TWO MONTHS to win over the rest of that large number of voters with only one debate scheduled. The odds are stacked against her more than for her, fair or unfair. If she would have been nominated months ago, there would have been more time for her to get her positions out. But their convention starts tomorrow and then in less than two months people will have to be comfortable enough with her to vote with her being a heartbeat away from leading the country. Obama took a long time to build up that confidence and has pasted many tough tests to do that. She will not have that much opportunity to change lots of minds in only two months time, which may be a little unfair to her, but it is where McCain put her. 39% approval rating is not a great place to start from.
Exactly what you just said is what will make it much more challenging for Biden to debate and attack her, he is in a tough situation and will have a tougher time I believe in the debates because of it. Now it should not be that way, but it is and will be very interesting to watch. I am looking forward to it and I do think she will surprise some people.
Yeah - I agree there. I think the only reason it matters is the "heartbeat away" aspect. That tends to be what defines a VP, and it's amplified in McCain's case due to age. Beyond that, I agree that their views don't matter terribly much.
Dude way to totally and completely own yourself. It's too bad because this thread wasn't going that badly for you up until that point. Halfway thru the vid this clown-tastic point of yours is addressed with all the seriousness it deserves: <embed FlashVars='videoId=183521' src='http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/video_player/view/default/swf.jhtml' quality='high' bgcolor='#cccccc' width='332' height='316' name='comedy_central_player' align='middle' allowScriptAccess='always' allownetworking='external' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer'></embed>
If we'd drilled in 2000 the price of gasoline would probably be up to one cent lower, ceteris paribas, accordign to the DOE's own calculus. This is the one part of the whole r****ded "drilling" debate that people like you are either too stupid to understand or are deliberately obscuring or both. I imagine it's a combination of both in your case - I remember clubbing you like a baby seal on this point in a pretty embarrassing thread for you earlier this year: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=3733478&highlight=ANWAR#post3733478
If SamFisher is against her, that's makes her all the more attractive candidate in my book! What she said in that opening clip is exactly how I feel -- drill, drill, drill as a patch to get us to the next level of green energy. The American public gets what it needs without being hosed in the short term by the environmentalists and the environmentalists win in the end, i.e. we all win. The more I listen to Palin the more I like her candidacy. Win or lose this election, she is going to be a star in the GOP.
I don't agree at all. I have a nasty hunch she will put McCain over the top. If not, she will be a strong Presidential candidate in 2012, along with Pawlenty and Huckabee. Obama is sure to be a weak President even with a majority in Congress, just as McCain would be. Thus, in 2012 Hillary runs against McCain or Palin runs against Obama. Either way, that makes me a Republican again.
I get our logic...that's cool. Either way, McCain loses this year. So if you want to set Palin up to run in 2012, maybe she will be ready then with many years to study the issues and prepare, I can't doubt that. But you have to hope that Obama is unsuccessful as a President because if he wins and is successful after 8 years of Bush, he will be a shoe in for 2012, even Hillary knows that which is why she was so hurt to lose this time.
That's not what I said at all. I said Palin may put McCain over the top ... in this election. Also, can you ask Clutch to help you amend your moniker to drop the "i" out of "analyst?" It drives me crazy to see such a misspelling.
I know what you said..I said McCain loses this year. I didn't attribute that to you. As far as my moniker is concerned, that has been addressed many times. Get over it or complain to Clutch!
Look the neo-cons had good luck with the uncurious and uninformed Dubya who was tutored by Cheney. Similarly they expect to have McCain or Cheney inform Palin. The only remark I read from her on Iraq is that it must be working since we have had no attacks since we invaded Iraq.
