yes but 3 point shooting isn't everything.

it helps spread the floor on offense giving the big guy room to make his move, but what about on defense? opposing PG's would be free to drive into yao potentially causing early and consistent foul trouble.

it makes more sense (to me at least) to have a defensive player at the 1, who will keep guards out of the paint, and yao out of foul trouble. a guy who doesn't get beat on PnR would really help yao so he doesn't have to hedge out on every screen.

if that kind of player can also hit an open 3 to keep the defense honest then he's the perfect fit IMO.

Hey if the suns are doing bad, and Artest is dominating on D...

    Rockets trade:
    Shane Battier
    Rafer Alston

    Suns trade:
    Steve Nash

    Salaries would work...

    Lineup
    PG: Nash
    SG: McGrady
    SF: Artest
    PF: Scola
    C: Yao
    6: Barry
    7: Landry
    8: Brooks
    9: Dorsey
    10: Mutumbo
    11: Francis
    12: Hayes
    IR1: Head
    IR2: Harris
    IR3: Strawberry

I highly doubt this would happen, but this would be a nice lineup

Plus I doubt this would affect our chemistry.

The best Point Guard for our present Rockets is one who is a floor general, one who can play uptight defence on his counter part, one who can control the flow of a game and set up his team mates, when in a scoring or shooting position. Scoring would be secondary to getting assists because he would be a true Playmaker Point Guard. :p

Unless the Kirk of last season is here to stay...

We all seem to assume he will regain his form of the seasons before last, but who knows, maybe his game is just lost - never to return.

In that case his contract is a serious albatross.

I wouldn't want us considering Hinrich until there is strong evidence he can still shoot and play.

we should try to get kobe and use him in our reserve roster spots in case tmac gets hurt, which he usually does. that way we wont have to worry about our sg postion.

also, tayshaun prince would be a good fit on this team in case battier gets injurd. prolly wont cuz he never does but just in case, we wont lose one of our lockdwon defenders

maybe if we replace scola with duncan it would relieve pressure off of yao. he has been injured the last 3 seasons so he duncan can most likley be used as insurace policy for yao, but then were gonna have to find someone to fill yaos spot when hes out.

in that case, we should get greg oden. hes a rookie or a sophmore and has potential.

in case the arena gets hit by a hurrcane we can start playin in msg. knicks can go somewhere else. we get mroe seats which means more fans which means better homecourt advantage.

I agree with everything you said. Good stuff.

If we look at the legendary guards like Michael Jordan, and we have a pseudo-Jordan player right here in T-Mac. T-Mac is the focal point of the offense. T-Mac will handle the ball a lot of the time and facilitate the offense. Obviously with Rafer on the team T-Mac will likely get double teamed badly like he did in the Jazz playoff series which means our PG, whoever that may be needs to shoot at a very high percentage, and slash to the hoop when needed.

A quick recap of the ideal PG for the Rockets:

    - Be able to hit the open jumper and the 3' ball consistently and at a high percentage

    - Defend the opposing PG to good effect

    - Can slash to the hoop and finish

Our PG doesn't have to create for others, in fact he doesn't even have to create for himself most of the time. T-Mac, Ron, Yao and to an extent Scola can consistently create their own shots and at a good percentage, whether its posting up or hitting the J.

Now, who is our Steve Kerr and BJ Thompson?????

Brent Barry? - More of a SG. still he will be tremendous to our successes.
    Rafer Alston? Can't shoot.
    Aaron Brooks? Can't defend.

I think there is one player who fits the bill...Delonte West. Can defend, can shoot, can slash, can rebound. Not as good a ball handler as Rafer but we'll have plenty of ball handlers on our awesome team.

If we can't land that Steve Kerr or Delonte West, I'd say we'd have to be content if Rafer cuts back his minutes and cuts down on his shots attempted, and just purely assist.

Its interesting to note in the past 3 championship teams the PG is always young and inexperienced compared to their teammates...Tony Parker, Rajon Rondo, Jason Williams. So Delonte West? Mmm......

How are Chris Paul and Steve Nash not good fits for this team? The rockets would take either in a heartbeat if they could. Steve Nash in particular can play on the ball or off. He's the best 3 point shooting point guard in the league. What else do you want?

And by the way, when did you actually start watching basketball or playing it? Just go ahead and lump your self into the Rafer-hater camp along with Redao. Our point guard does not need to cut and slash well, nor does he need to be able to play like Rip or Reggie, coming off screens. He needs to shoot a good enough percentage at the 3. Rafer does this. Slashing and shooting off picks are bonuses.

Your #4 is just takling an unneccessary stab at rafer. Didn't we win with Vernon Maxwell? Since when is even-temperedness necessary in a player.

Let me guess, you'd rather have andre miller or rondo over rafer? riiiiight. That's why rondo was benched for cassell in the finals cuz he can't shoot worth a lick, especially from downtown. Same for Andre Miller, can't shoot the 3....and talking about needing the ball in your hands? Miller does. he wouldn't fit here.

When we win a championship with Rafer at point, I hope haters will come and eat crow and give the man his props.

Frankly speaking,we don't need Nash,he is old and our basketball system is so different with Phoenix.
Look at the Mavs&Kidd thing, that's totally totally a warning for us.
