Yes. I wish to shamelessly use my dog AT TIMES to pickup girls. I've been lulling this around in my head for a while and have a few ideas but I'm wondering on what to do overall. Like, our new dog Molly (and only dog that the family loves to death) is pretty playful with new people and new dogs, so no worries about many conflicts. However, what is the best way? If she starts to jump on girls I like and getting them to pet her, what shameless things can I say to flirt with them and pretend I'm """"scolding"""" my dog at the same time?

Girls always come up to and ask me about my dog. Its a great conversation starter. Especially in apartment complexes there are a ton of single women there. Even if you live in a housing neighborhood, find and walk through an apartment complex with your dog. People will generally strike up conversation with you, not just girls.

Something like, "you must smell like my dead wife. We miss her. Would you like to do it?" would work. imo

Now we're ending thread titles with 'discuss' as well?

    heck ya!

the one time i took care of my old roommates dog (chiuahua or however you spell it) I took her for a walk on campus for about 20 minutes and I came back to my apt with 4 phone numbers in my pocket. it was the greatest thing ever, it didnt always work out with the girls but it worked enough for me to keep wanting to walk his dog whenever I got a chance.

I often joke with my wife that if I was still single, the best thing I could do to meet women was own a dog. I'm always floored at how many conversations you start up with complete strangers while walking the dog. Some people just smile at the dog, but you can easily turn that into a conversation. Of course, being married takes away the whole "picking chicks up" motive (at least for me), so it's a lot easier to talk to the sexiest women without looking needy or like a walking erection.

Don't worry about trying to script a way to pick women up. Just walk the dog and chat girls up who pay attention to the dog. Then use your skillz to parlay that brief conversation into a longer one, phone number, or date.

Professor Brightside, please elaborate. I mean, is it just pretty much they fall in love with the dog and then conversation flows easy from there? I'm trying to more or less use my dog as a crutch for coming out of my shell :)

Also, apartment complexes. Really? Aren't they gated and such so that you can't just... walk in or how's that work?

Ahh ok, I was wondering if scripted had to be the way to go after that. So ideally it should flow fairly well just after the "oh, she's so cute!!!!" phase?

It just sounds cool. It makes me feel like the board is a council and we're all discussing among ourselves the best solution for a member of the community.

Why'd you think it's shameful to get a little help from your puppy?

I'm of the very shy type when it comes to talking to random girls. But soon after I got my first dog, everything completely changed. I became a much more social person since I would get to talk to a few random strangers everyday while walking my dog.

90% of questions from girls will be like "what type of dog is that." So better have an answer ready. The other 10% of people will ask what is the dogs name. If you have a really cute sounding name, the girls will laugh and ask you about it.

After you have the intro set of questions already in place, you can then ask the girl, whether she has a dog, but usually by this time she would already have mentioned it.

A good transition point to take the conversation further would be to ask "do you take your dog to the dog park." And then ask where it is. Alot of times the girl will tell you to join her when she goes to the dog park on the weekend, etc..

I've got a fair number of phone numbers and meetup plans through this. Seriously, getting a dog is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Also if you are just a very shy type of person in general, you will become more open to others, as everyone likes to talk about their pets.

Regarding the apartment complex thing, most complexes have locks and gates, but if you just pretend to hang around the front gate, a car will drive through and you can waltz right in. I normally walk through an apartment complex which is near my neighborhood b/c it is a a shortcut into the park I walk at, but I would suggest apartment complexes b/c there is a good concentration of folks there. I notice that some dog owners also hang out by the pool area as well.

    Good luck.

When I had The Wonder Dog, back when I was single, I used to go everywhere with him. He was a chick magnet. At parties, he had this uncanny ability to attract girls. He'd go up to them, introducing himself. 50 pounds of cool Labradoodle. Heck, some of them came up to me and said, "Do you know that dog? He's the coolest thing!" He loved to do all his tricks in front of an audience and performed best at parties. I sure miss The Wonder Dog. :(
