This renewed talk about Rock Band reminded me that The Who went up for download today. Gotta rememebnr to long on and get a few. I love how MTV wanted 100 songs on RB2 but couldn't fit them on the disc so they're going to offer 20 songs for free download soon after release. No idea what they are though. Could be "Milli Vanilli's Greatest Hits (Vol. 1)" for all I know.
http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63753 The creators talking about the game in a 16 minute video. Pretty good stuff. Shows Everlong by the Foo Fighters being played. They also give some info on the new Guns N Roses song and the AC/DC stuff.
The Rock Band 2 Premium Drum set which releases the same day as RB2: It comes with 2 cymbals and you can add another to it. You can also change out the Xbox 360 brains with a real electronic drum brain. I don't know anything about electronic drums so I have no idea if this is good for that or not but I think it's still pretty freaking cool. Everything I've read is that it is way quieter than the RB1 set. It is also backwards compatible with RB1. You can get more info here: https://www.drumrocker.com/ I pre-ordered on Amazon since shipping is so cheap with an Amazon Prime account. Oh yeah, it's $300. Ouch! They don't have the extra cymbal for sale yet but I'm sure it will be there soon.
GH3 World Tour's setlist pwntz Rockbands. The only reason I am even thinking of buying Rockband 2 is because of Everlong. That song will be sick on the drums!
I don't see how you can make that statement since GHWT's set list has not been released. There are some songs that are confirmed for GHWT but not the entire set list. There are definitely songs on both that I am excited about and I'll end up owning both games but the fact that you can import all the songs from RB1 and all of your DLC from RB1 to me gives it the edge. I also do not like the cartoonish characters of the GH games but that is an individual prefereence. So is the fact that I like how the audience sings along when you are doing well on a song. FWIW, Everlong will be on GHWT as well.
I'm more of a fan of the "older" stuff (being a child of the 80's and all) so from what I've seen, I prefer RB's setlist so far. I like having The Who, Joan Jett, and Duran Duran in there. Plus, I've always wanted to take a crack at "Spirit in the Sky," I don't care what some previews say. Sure it'll be easy but it's nearly a rock anthem, it should be in. I am going to wait until GH4's entire set list is revealed before making a final judgement though.
I need a recommendation. I've only got a ps2. i played guitar hero for the first time this past weekend and LOVED it. what would you guys suggest i buy first? should i just buy guitar hero bundle with guitar or go all out with rockband and all the instruments? can i progress through rockband by just playing the guitar?
To answer your question yes. RB progression is a little different than GH but we played through all the songs on guitar before we played them on the drums. The main difference I noticed was that on easy on the PS3 version you couldn't open all the songs. You had to play through on medium. we started with GH because I expected to be the only one in my family that would play it. Once my son and wife figure out it was fun we quickly progressed to RB so that we could all play together. I all actuality though it really is a personal decision on which one to get. There are several factors to consider. Some of the things I checked into before buying either were: If you are playing by yourself there may be no reason to get RB. If you are playing with more than 1 or 2 you'd want to seriously consider RB. Set list is another factor. My son prefers the GH set so when he plays alone he tends to play that more. l like the RB set so I tend to play that. Difficulty is not a problem the drums on easy are not bad, and if you can play guitar on GH you can play at theh same level on RB. Now with the upcoming releases you may also want to consider future purchases too. RB2 , as said above is backwards compatible with RB and any downloads. But if you only purchase GH to get your feet wet you can upgrade to the new world tour when it is released instead of buying into both franchises. One other important factor for RB , since you are playing on the PS2, is that you can getthe add on pack which contains a good bit of the d/l content for RB. GH doesn't have anythign like this, and really doesn't have too muh in the way of d/l content anyway. No matter what you choose you will no doubt have fun, and IO there is no real wrong choice.
I get that alot from people. I dont see why people feel like they have to like only one or the other. I like to sing, so I prefer Rock Band. But I will be getting GHWT as well, since there will be vocals. Why choose to bash one of them? Two is better than one, I say.
thanks for the post. after reading, i went out and bought rock band. been jamming to it the past hour and half. can't wait till i get to the hardcore 80s songs.
I think they should have made the Strat two-tone sunburst instead of three-tone sunburst like when it was first introduced in 1954....
Harmonix has recently released a RB1 update to set up for the release of RB2 on the 360. The update lets you export songs from you RB1 library to your HD so they can be used in RB2. It costs about $5 to pay for licensing fees Harmonix has to pay for continued use of the songs. The PS3 version of the update is set to release Thursday. The biggest news to come out of it though is that with the release of the patch the GH3 Les Paul controller will be compatible with RB1. http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77842

I haven't played the RB2 drums (are they even out yet?), but early reports from reviews are that they're better than the RB1 drums. Short of getting a Yamaha electronic drumset and rigging it to work with Rock Band, it's never going to be the same.
