I really think this would be a potential championship year for Tech, with the exception of the fact that they play OU in Norman... that's a really tough hurdle to overcome.

    Big 12:

    1. Missouri
    2. Oklahoma
    3. Tech
    4. Texas
    5. Oklahoma State (agree this team is underrated)
    6. Nebraska (so are they)
    7. Kansas
    8. Texas A&M
    9. Kansas State
    10. Colorado (has anyone seen their schedule? talk about tough.)
    11. Baylor
    12. Iowa State

This time, Mizzou beats OU in the title game. Partially because I'm a homer, but OU loses some studs off that defense (most notably, Lofton who made the game-changing play) and Mizzou returns basically everyone on both sides. But most importantly, it's basically a home game in KC in the cold this time around.

As for who Missouri would play in the title game? I'll go with West Virginia for right now. They have the usual soft early schedule and the Big East (Pitt is massively overrated). But, they did schedule a late October game with Auburn -- and with it in Morgantown, I think that'll give them a lot of SOS credibility -- even if they lost a game somewhere.

I think the SEC teams will knock each other off, and unless Ohio State beats USC, I think poll voters will push them to the very back of the one-loss pack based on the last two years. USC is definitely a factor, but they have an unusually tough schedule and I think they drop at least one somewhere along the way.

So, I'll go with Missouri and West Virginia for the time being -- the game that almost was nine months ago. :)

Missouri has a harder schedule this year than last year. They have a good chance of losing their first game (against Illinois).
UO has a lot of good recruits coming in (as always) , so I expect them to be 1st, but even if they should play Mizzou in the Big 12 Championship game, I think they will win (again). Damn, I'm starting to praise them too much.

Texas is still better than Tech, in my opinion, even with their relative lack of depth (compared to the last couple of years) at the WR position.

OH, and kudos for the recognition (about OSU) :D

    And finally....LOL @ Colorado's schedule

Mizzou and KU don't sneak up on anyone this year. Harder playing from that position.

And there you have the reason everyone hates the BCS system.

Okay maybe not everyone, but everyone who roots for an SEC team.

We obviously have the best teams, but we beat one another up every season... and are punished because all of our teams are tough.

I am pumped about ESPN getting the SEC license. I think it will create a contagious effect and snap everyone back into reality. USC, OU, OSU, these teams would drop 3 games every year in the SEC. Now everyone will see it and hopefully people start growling loud enough to drop the BCS.

Eh, I have to disagree strongly there. Mizzou's schedule sets up a lot easier this year -- they played Illinois last year and won, and Mizzou returns a better team while Illinois returns weaker. Other than that, their non-conference is automatic. In the Big 12, they played OU, Tech and A&M last year -- this year, those three are replaced by Texas, Oklahoma State and Baylor. Weaker across the board.

With KU, that's true to an extent. But with Mizzou, you're talking about a team that basically obliterated every team they played not named Oklahoma. (The Illinois and KU games were both the types that weren't nearly as close as the final score indicated.) imo, you use "sneak up" more to describe teams who are taken lightly, and scrape their way to wins.

The other thing is that Mizzou has two legit Heisman Trophy contenders on offense, in addition to multiple first-round picks. With KU, that kind of talent isn't there. That's not to disrespect KU -- Mangino does a hell of a job, and their teamwork is impeccable. But I don't think you can lump them with Missouri, because the talent difference is night and day.

(Also, has anyone seen KU's schedule? After playing no one last year (OU, Texas and Tech were ALL off the schedule)... they play at South Florida in OOC, then have this six week stretch in the Big 12:

    10/18/08 at Oklahoma
    10/25/08 vs. Texas Tech
    11/01/08 vs. Kansas State
    11/08/08 at Nebraska
    11/15/08 vs. Texas
    11/29/08 vs. Missouri (Arrowhead)

    Good luck with that, Beakers.)

Last time I checked Harrell had about 3k more yards and about twice as many touchdowns.

    Sigh.....

Last I checked Harrell played in a spread offense that predicates itself on the passing game (a la Patriots) and he also had over 700 passing attempts-more than twice as much as Zac Robinson. He is incredibly overrated, very similarly to Colt Brennan.

Now lets break down Zac Robinson's stats:
-He didn't start until the fourth game of the season.
    -He was sophomore last year.
-He's a DUAL THREAT QB (a la Tebow).
-He ran for more than 700 yards, including 7 TDs on the ground, again, in fewer games than Tebow or the Leflevour (sp?)

    Abso-freakin'-lutely.

I've said it the past 2 years, and I'll say it again. SEC champs vs whoever is the best of the remaining NCAA SHOULD be the NC game. *Cues the Jaws theme*

In Kentucky's defense, I think I remember KU giving quite a few scares last year, including the Gators.

Oklahoma State was 7-6 last year. Losers don't win the Heisman

Agreed....Stewart Mandel said it best in his cnnsi mailbag today- as great as Robinson and that offense will be, the defense will be freaking atrocious again. Last year, they were like 101 in pass defense and 112 in overall D or something similar to that. Eek. That won't win you many trophies, 40 year old men or otherwise.

I think people are severely underrating LSU this year because of their quarterback situation and overrating Georgia. LSU is so stacked everywhere else that I think if they can find just a decent game manager out of their 3 quarterbacks, they should be just fine.

Georgia, on the other hand, I'm still trying to figure out where all this hype came from. Yes, they finished last season strong, but I'm not sure it made up for their embarrassing losses earlier in the season. And what has Matt Stafford ever done to garner all the hype that he seems to have besides being a highly-touted recruit out of high school? He was 56th in passing efficiency last season and was not impressive at all when I saw him. Not to mention they just lost their starting left tackle for the season. I expect them to get beaten thoroughly in Baton Rouge this season and be one of the more disappointing teams this year. I think the winner of LSU-Florida will play for the MNC.

My national championship prediction: Florida vs. OU

If the defense wasn't so [atrocious], we could've won 8-9 games (including last minute losses against Texas A&M and Texas).

But don't put the team's record against a kid's achievements. If he was playing on a SEC team he would be the Heisman winner. Bet on it.

I think we all agree that Zac is talented and pretty underrated. However, most of us also agree that the team defense is keeping his team from wins, which is causing OSU and Robinson to stay below the radar. Furthermore, like it or not, Heisman winners rarely come from "good" teams, much less average or losing teams. Typically you find the Heisman on a top 10 team, or the voters do.

My championship game? Hmmmm.....How about Oklahoma v. Ohio State. The two teams I hate most in the nation. :( But I agree- I could see a USC-Ohio State rematch. Here's hoping that at least Mizzou can get past OU in the Big 12 championship so that someone else can paste Ohio State this year! :D

I'm watching the Baylor vs WF game instead of the Texans. Is this wrong?

...and there are rumors that Baylor is trying to play by the old SWC rules. Should be interesting.

No, I would watch college football over a meaningless preseason game. So meaningless "the broadcast home of the Texans" isn't showing it live, opting for the Democratic National Convention.

That's what every good statistical QB on a mediocre team thinks. Zac Robinson isn't even the best QB in the Big12. He should try to be the best in his own conference before even dreaming of winning the Heisman in the SEC.
