He would be an absolutely fantastic pickup for our team. Worst case is that he takes over Loren Woods' job from last season of riding the pine and scratching himself. But Hadadi is easily better than that.
Strawberry wasn't drafted last season! You think maybe Morey was trying to get their pick and Strawberry? Or he was offering our pick for Strawberry? I dunno - it seems as if the Rockets were targetting an international player, and trying to simply buy a pick, or possibly trade up. When the Suns asked for a future 2nd Morey hangs up.
Well according to the iranian media, morey met ehdadi and he's agent in china. i think were waiting on deke. if he accepts the minimum, then we'll be set. if not, we probaly go after ehdadi. the rummors about memphis wanting him are legit. but i think he might wanna go to a better club like ours. we have a proud history in developing good big men.
Oh yeah. Morey thought ahead 11 moves on this one. 1. Sign Bonzi Wells to biannual. 2. Trade Juwan for Mike James and change. 3. Trade James and Bonzi to New Orleans for "Bobby Jackson's Expiring Contract" 4. Draft Nicholas Batum to PUNK San Antonio. 5. Trade Batum for picks 26 and 33 from Memphis. 6. Draft Darrell Arthur. 7. Trade Arthur for the 28th pick and the 2009 31st pick (because Memphis is gonna be the worst team in the league). 8. Draft Donte Greene 9. "Facilitate" Donte Greene's 40 point game in the summer league, with help from inside men Aaron Brooks and Mike Harris and Elston Turner. 10. Trade Bobby Jackson's Expiring Contract, Donte Greene, and the 60th pick of 2009 (because the Rockets will have the best regular season record this year) for crappy Ron Artest, Patrick Ewing Jr. and Sean Singletary. 11. Trade Sean Singletary for DJ Strawberry. CHECK AND MATE. GG LEAGUE. We just acquired the missing piece.
I think shame may have played a role (although I think the word embarrassed is a better fit than ashamed - shame is more a private/internal thing and embarrassment is something public, that others are aware of), but I really think it's more about having his own identity. Here are 2 good articles that touch on his use of the name D.J.: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/07/AR2007030702550.html http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/suns/2008-04-04-strawberry_N.htm Also...........BEWARE the LURKERS!!!
kapono and carroll got MLE because of the type of teams they are with. Kapono wasn't "valuable" until he's with Heat where defenders are drawn to both shaq and wade. Rockets are on a different boat. we got all the firing powers with yao, tmac, artest, barry, alston, scola... what we need is a defender at the point. strawberry *could* be that player.
i think you really have CD to thank for the strawberry trade. he's the one with the foresight... he's the one that signed cato to that obscene contract, knowing that he could then be traded for juwon's equally obscene contract. he made sure that juwon was included in the tmac trade, he made sure they traded away mike james so that they could trade juwon for him.
Defensively, Strawberry sounds better than Francis. Offensively, Francis may be (was) probably better than Strawberry. If they are indeed similar as you suggest, then maybe it would be "situational backup PG" by committee -- Brooks, Francis and Strawberry. But unless other changes/trades follow, there aren't enough available roster spots.
I remember hearing the name Strawberry when the Rockets played the Suns in LV Summer League. I was like damn, nobody can stop that fool or what. Seriously, I got tired of hearing his name over and over and over. He played a great game against us. I dont remeber his exact plays but I am sure Morey took notes on his performance.
its sucks to see sean singeltary get traded cause he did avg. good numbers in college and could have been a poor-man's chris paul but strawberry does add a little more height to the team if he makes it.
