You never really know for sure how they'll interact, but you need to know your dog and prep for having a kid in the house. We have 2 dogs. We trust Karma a great deal. She's a 8 year old chow mix, but she's always been really maternal towards us, other animals, and children. She once tried to nurse a stray kitten we found, and I swear she thinks of herself as a nursemaid to Kirsten. We also have a 7 yeard old chocolate lab, Dexter. He's a sweet dog, but he's really prissy when it comes to his paws and his face.

We constantly supervise Kirsten with the dogs, but we are a lot more hardcore about not letting her grope Dexter's face or paws. Kirsten likes to grab things roughly, and we're afraid of her scratching a dog eye or pulling out hair. She just started crawling a few weeks ago, so we're even more hyper-alert lately. Kirsten likes to grab the dog collars\tags, and we just want to make sure we don't ever let her aggravate them. Even with that, I don't think either dog would bite her, but better to be careful

We did prep before Kirsten was born. We took a child safety class, and the instructor gave some good advice on all of this. It's good to make sure the dogs knew where they stood in the pack hierarchy (they tend to think of the baby as joining the pack). They weren't allowed on the bed ever (they were rarely allowed before). When we came home, we'd ignore them for 5 minutes so they'd be used to similar behavior when we came in with a baby. After Kirsten was born, we introduced her to the dogs and let them get used to her scent. We try to praise them as well so they feel they are still being loved (it's amazing how much focus a baby takes).

We never rough-played with our dogs. We'd take them to the park and run them, but we never encouraged aggressive behavior.

Just know your dog and try be consistent to they way you approach things, but you just have to always supervise your child (not just dogs, but for electrical outlets, breakable objects, choke hazards, etc.).
