How about trading Head for a 2nd rd pick and keeping Strawberry? That would save more money (?) and upgrade the team.
Besides the partially vs. non-guaranteed difference, I can see this move being as much of a nice guy move on Morey's part than anything else. Singletary wasn't making our team and was just a throw-in to a trade. This gives him at least an opportunity to make a team where someone apparently really wants to give him a shot.
It=D.J? If so, no. DJ might be a impact player that will be better than 2nd round picks next year....
Interesting. As hooroo point out he's likely to get waived but i'm assuming he'll still get brought into training camp. Maybe he can turn a few heads there? I remember reading a write up of a summer league game where apparently he started guarding Donte Greene, stuck with him, played good defense and ultimately prevented him from breaking the summer league scoring record. To his credit he is an NBA athlete with above average quickness, strength and athleticism. I remember watching him at Maryland thinking he could maybe become an Antonio Daniels type of combo guard. You know, that type that don't possess natural/instinctual playmaking abilities but are disciplined and smart enough to handle the ball and limit mistakes.
What CAN'T Morey do?!? that is great trade I never expected anything like D.J to come without giving up anybody important, he can certainly give Brooks a run for his money which will motivate him .Morey for Executive of the Year!!
this trade is only about getting out of singletary's partially guaranteed contract. strawberry will be cut. now, lets hope some team has interest in ewing jr.
Ewing and Luther Head for a draft pick will need to be the next move. Academic contract sign-ups to finish the roster will be mutombo and landry
That would leave only 14 players not including Strawberry. Then again even Russell Robinson has signed with a team while Maarty Leunen has not. Maybe Leunen has been told to wait for a possible roster opening?
While I am inclined to agree with you, I do think the Rockets would be wise to at least invite Strawberry to training camp. He would then be able to compete with Mike Harris for the 15th roster spot. No, he will not be better than Luther Head. But he may fill a more important role for the Rockets than Mike Harris would. And, more importantly, those would be the only two players (along with Patrick Ewing, Jr.) without fully guaranteed contracts. The Rockets would like another guy off the bench to defend opponents' guards. While Artest and Battier are excellent defenders, they will likely spend their time guarding opposing forwards and some big SGs. Strawberry could fill a "Ryan Bowen-type role" on this team, as someone who can come in during the final 30 seconds of a quarter to keep the rotation guys out of foul trouble. Mike Harris, as much as I love him, is essentially playing behind Ron Artest, Shane Battier and Tracy McGrady at the SF position, and behind Luis Scola, Ron Artest and possibly Carl Landry AND Joey Dorsey at the PF position. He will not see meaningful minutes next season unless there are multiple injuries to the Rockets' rotation players. The Rockets wanted Harris to work on his perimeter defense in the summer league; but I think he still looked a little too slow to guard opposing SGs. Don't be surprised if it is Strawberry, and not Harris, taking up the Rockets' final roster spot when the season starts.
was that a preseason game???? I see all the players from both teams are bench players... all starters were on the bench..
.. Is Strawberry our answer to Deron Williams.. a big pg. that can play D?... if he does nothing this year then stop Deron .. then i say he deserves a roster spot..
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5965071.html Looks like Morey is at least saying he'll be given a shot at training camp. If I was him I wouldn't be house hunting just yet though
Do they play pre-season games on Oct. 25th? Have you ever seen a pre-season game on TNT? There are enough clues.
Preseason schedule Oct. 7 vs. Memphis 7:30 p.m Oct. 9 vs. San Antonio 7:30 p.m Oct. 11 at Boston (at Manchester, N.H.) 6:30 p.m Oct. 13 at Oklahoma City (at Tula, Okla.) 7:30 p.m Oct. 15 at Memphis 7 p.m. Oct. 17 vs. Sacramento 7:30 p.m Oct. 23 at Sacramento 9 p.m. Phoenix then hosts the first outdoor NBA game of the modern era on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. in a preseason contest against the Denver Nuggets that will be carried nationally on TNT Obviously pre-season games do play on Oct 25th and pre-season games might be carried on national TV. I think you need to do more researching before you think someone is not smart as you. Explain why all starters on the bench when the game was in the over time.
