    Greg Oden Signs with Nike
    (article from June 2007)

Greg Oden, the 7-footer who is expected to be a top pick in the June 28 draft, has signed an endorsement deal with Nike, the shoe and apparel maker confirmed Friday.

The terms of the multiyear deal were not disclosed.

Oden, who declared himself eligible for the draft after one year at Ohio State , earlier signed a three-year contract with the trading card company Topps worth at least $3 million.

After getting a late start his freshman year because of a wrist injury, Oden led the Buckeyes in scoring (15.7) and rebounding (9.6) and topped the Big Ten in shooting percentage (.616).

The Buckeyes went 35-4 and won the Big Ten's regular-season and tournament titles before advancing to their first national championship game since 1962, losing to two-time champion Florida . In the championship game, Oden had 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Nike's deal with Oden was first reported by Brian Berger, host of the syndicated radio program Sports Business Radio.

Oden was in Portland this week to work out for the Portland Trail Blazers, who have the No. 1 selection in the draft. Kevin Durant, who played at Texas , is also vying to be the top draft pick, was working out for the Blazers on Friday.

Beaverton, Ore.-based Nike also has endorsement deals with NBA stars LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash, among others.

the shorts he's wearing are probably trailblazers/NBA shorts. With Adidas being the official apparel of the NBA, it's not commonplace to see Nike athletes with Adidas gear on.

Let's hope if Portland drafts him he does not have to have microfracture surgery almost immediately after.

Happens all the time though. Especially with guys like Oden who the average Joe has never heard of.

While not the most applicable burn considering the explanation, still quite funny. :)

On a side note, any one follow his performance recently? Kind of curious if we can expect to see him live up to his hype this season.

If he does Portland will be quite a team to reckon with. Roy-Oden combo is pretty impressive. However I don't think they will contend for at least another 2 years.

I've been following it closely. He recently started practicing 3 on 3. His first session was REALLY rough, but there was no pain. Since then, he's dramatically improved. Whether he lives up to the hype is anyone's guess, but Blazers fans are salivating. Oden, Roy and Aldridge are their Big 3.

I'm telling you right now that if Brandon Roy is healthy all season, the Blazers are going to really surprise people and win over 50 games. They were 41-41 last season, he missed 8 games and played much of the year hampered. When you consider Roy, Aldridge, Outlaw & Webster will be a year older and they will add Jerryd Bayless, Oden and Rudy Fernandez to their roster, I don't get why people have them on the bubble. They will start rough and finish strong.

The Blazers could be an elite team in 2 seasons. This time, they're young. You don't know if Oden is going to be any good or not. However, they have a bunch of young, athletic, talented players. I say give them two seasons and they will be a force to be reckoned with. If Oden grows into his potential, look out.

Oh and not to mention Rudy Fernandez looks like he'll be a great pick up. Did you all see that dunk in the gold medal game???

I knew he could shoot, I didn't know he was that athletic though.
