trading battier does no good for this team, and dont forget we were so excited when Morely didnt have to give up battier in the artest trade, and now you want to give up battier for Gordon? come on man.. Also Daryl Morely does realize how battier's importance for this team, and that's why he tried not to include him in the artest trade, I truly believe if the Kings wanted to include battier, i dont think the artest trade would go down...

Another thing is that remember the kings wanted the lakers to take on the Kenny Thomas's contract if they trade Artest to Lakers, we should be proud of having Morely as our GM, we didnt have to give up too much or take some huge contracts to get Artest.

Why would we trade battier? We dont know how long Artest will be here. If he leaves next season, we'll be SF hunting again...and we're worse defensivley.

If this is not overrated I don't know what is. To me Battier = Bruce Bowen = James Posey!!!!! Man... I don't see the facination with Battier. He is a great role player thats it. What has he done for us in all the playoff losses?? nada. $8 MM a year for a good role player IS overrating that player.

Just FYI, it's not Morely. It's Morey.

For Jim Rome fans: "It's not Ryan, it's Ryne."

No way do you trade Battier for Gordon. Why do you want another under sized shooting guard??

who in their right mind wouldn't think that? How is he different from Bowen? He is a barely better version of Posey.

Battier is definitely overrated when someone was saying that he was better than Ben Gordon.

I would trade Battier for any 21 points per game shooter.

Ben Gordon is certainly an upgrade over Head as a backup SG and PG, Artest is an upgrade of Battier. Yao, Scola, Landry, Hayes, Dorsey front court has enough offense and defense in NBA. Our team will improve drastically over the previous 55 win one. Championship, this season, anyone still doubt? Next season when Artest is gone? who cares if you already have a third championship with Yao, TMAC, Gordon still on the team.

1: to replace our same undersized SG in Head who also had to play backup PG. Head was making Alston a MVP of this team, That was a disaster.

2: to win a championship this particular season.

3: Artest will have a tough choice between another ring or maybe a little bit bigger contract.

Among many things I don't get:

    1. Morey didn't have to give anything other than Bobby Jackson and a couple of low 1st round picks for a reasonably-priced 2-way player Ron Artest, why do you think he'd give away a significant contributor in Battier in order to get a 1-way player in Ben Gordon who is looking to be unreasonably-priced?

    2. The Suns are apparently marketing Leandro Barbosa in a salary-related move. Barbosa makes much less money than Ben Gordon and is just as productive as a player. If Morey wants to get a undersized scoring 2 who can shoot, why would he bother with overpaying Ben Gordon?

    3. Similarly, Cleveland just acquired Mo Williams, who is getting paid less than what Ben Gordon wants, for a couple of expiring contracts. Again, if Morey wanted a scoring guard, why would he give up Battier for Ben Gordon when he probably could have given up much less for Mo Williams?

What exactly is the difference between Ben Gordon and Mo or Leandrinho?

Very good post. I agree with you although I did say earlier in this thread I would do this deal only if Gordon could effectively run the point, which he cannot. Gordon would be a perfect fit on this team if he had any playmaking skills. Oh well, time for the Grizzlies or somebody to overpay him.

    1. we need to secure the ring this season. We have to spend Battier to look for more upgrading. Battier won't be a significant contributor with Artest in. if Ben Gordon is attainable, lets get him. Battier for Gordon, no brainer.

    2. I would never trade Battier to any western playoff teams. His defense is needed by most of them, unless they give us their No. 1 option.

    3. We don't have anything that can get Mo. Bucks might just think that Battier's defense from the bench is less attractive than money saving.

Perhaps = to Bowen, i think both are a little better than Posey tho. Plus, there is something to be said about that attitude. Leadership is underrated by a lot of people. But yea, 8 million a year is probably a little much. However, 14 million for Gordon? THAT's overpaying.

Not to mention the whole "we have 3 scorers and need more role players" argument.

I'm on the fence on this swap. I LOVE what Battier brings to the table, but if we're gonna retain Artest after this year, then its a little redundant. IF (capital 'if') Gordon can upgrade the PG position for us (from Rafer), then it WOULD make our starting 5 better....at the cost of downgrading our 6th position. Add to the mix that Gordon is gonna have a nasty contract... I wouldnt applaud the move, but i wouldnt break out the torch and pitchfork, either. I think there's a better move to make out there. Now, Battier and Rafer for Hinrich and Gordon (plus whatever dead weight you wanna package in to make it work... i'd pull the trigger on that one! Hinrich/Tmac/Artest/Scola/Ming as our starting 5, with Gordon as our 6 man (and security blanket against a TMAC injury)... It'd take some work on the finances, but that's a championship caliber 6 man rotation.

    no thanks,

ben gordon is a great scorer, but thats about it.

I wouldn't trade shane for ben gordon strait up. Defense wins games. Not offense. Now that we have 2 of the top defenders (and 3 if tmac puts in effort), we are going to shut teams down!!

    NO.
You do not pay a sixth-man 10 million a year.
I'd rather pay the money to Artest next year.
