how did BJ insinuate anything? He posted a title and a link...which have all been proven to be correct...

Warren asked him straight up did he hear the questions before hand and Mccain said no....NOW let me ask you, if he had heard the question before hand, do you really think he would have told Warren???
your answer will tell me alot ;)

Batman, regarding your lie and mischaraterization -- McCain was in the cone of silence the entire time. He did not hear the questions. You claim he was not in the cone. Your source was Warren. Warren now says that McCain did not hear the questions. So you own source has discredited you.

What you are failing to grasp here is that the cone of silence is not actually a cone, in the spatial sense. Do you think McCain was sitting inside of a cone? The term 'cone' is used as a metaphor to describe the state of being in which McCain was not able to hear the questions. Seeing as though your own source claims that McCain didn't hear the questions, it's quite clear that he was in the metaphorical cone of silence the entire time. And because of that, you have lied.

Not to pile on to this bonfire of Batman's vanity/credibility, but don't you guys find it interesting that the New York Times is so willing to run with this malicious lie, yet won't write one peep about so many of the rumors that are swirling around Obama? His falsified Certificate of Live Birth, the document that proves he was listed as a Muslim in school, the fact that his name was Barry Soetoro for much of his life, the anti-American rants he allegedly went on while visiting Africa, etc, etc...

Not that the NYT has a single shred of credibility left, but this just reinforces the now obvious point.

wow, just wow, I can't believe he wasn't in the building while Obama was getting interviewed. It really is simply making a farce of what RW was trying to do.

McCain gave the easy answers that would be safe and get him the votes. He stumped many of the answer and borrowed from his speeches.

Really, now in retrospeck, you have to wonder if he had premeditated his answers. I hope everyone who watched the event is aware of this.

Trader Jorge, I don't think you should call Batman a liar here. While I am no fan of his (and he of mine) - the McCain campaign itself has admited he was not in the building for a portion of Obama's Q&A. So are you calling the McCain campaign liars as well?

Yes, it is so biased to publish facts but then refuse to publish discredited rumors.

Because this is not some internet rumor, it actually happened...
See the NYT covers actual events not things that happened in your mind ;)

Don't be so hard on yourself, New Yorker. I'm a fan of the new Sweet Lou 4 2.

I don't always agree with you, but as long as you're not pretending to conduct weird social experiments here anymore we're cool. Even your posts I haven't agreed with have been pretty levelheaded and reasonable lately.

I wasn't with the conspiracy theorists on this, btw.

Last night there people posting on left wing blogs trying to figure out if he'd somehow listened in, using examples like the one mc mark cited, and I just thought it was silly. I thought it was a stretch and a paranoid one. I just thought that he must have really prepped hard and was showing us a side of himself he hadn't throughout the campaign. And that might be true. Since McCain chose to violate the rules, we'll never know.

I did recognize such a stark contrast in the pacing though (Obama slow and thoughtful, McCain fast and aggressive) that it made me wonder if a handler hadn't simply said to him on his way to the stage something like, "Obama was slow and low energy -- keep it peppy." It occurred to me because he was so uncharacteristically quick. This was a McCain we haven't seen during this campaign.

I wouldn't have considered that cheating, just a very tiny advantage from going second.

It never would have occurred to me that there was any possibility McCain wasn't in a secure room during Obama's segment until the story came out today.

All day long, in the lead up to the event, in promos and interviews with Warren, much was made of the "cone of silence" and the fairness it would represent. And then they announced it at the beginning of the forum. The fact that he wasn't even there -- and moreover the fact that he failed to correct Warren when he asked him if he'd been comfortable in the "cone of silence" -- is pretty incredible.

You continue to lie about this! He was in the cone of silence because he did not hear the questions. Do you think there was an actual cone that was backstage that he was supposed to be sitting in? That's absurd. Totally absurd.

Is this what you think McCain should have been sitting in last night?

The cone of silence was used figuratively, Batman. And it was upheld. Ask your source -- Rick Warren -- for confirmation.

    Chicken_G:

The "cone of silence" was supposed to be a secure room. And you know that.

The American people were defrauded by John McCain last night, whether he received an advantage or not.

And you owe me an apology. You can post it in this thread. TIA.

Bill Kristol changes his online column to reflect the truth about the "cone of silence" --

    Cone of Silence

Bill Kristol, in the print edition of this morning’s New York Times:

News story in today’s New York Times, print and online editions:

Bill Kristol’s desperate last-minute attempt to salvage some shred of dignity by rewriting his column for the online edition of this morning’s New York TImes:

The only indication that the column has been revised: a small note in teensy tiny light grey type at the bottom of the page which inform us that “a version of this article appeared in print on August 18, 2008, on page A19 of the New York edition.”

BONUS FUN QUOTE from news article above: “The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous,” Ms. Wallace said.
