DH helped his team win some playoff series, Yao never did once. I am not saying Yao is overrated or not. But until he can show some result, any bashing of him is fair game.
If anything, Battier is underrated. He can absolutely shut down the best scorers in the game with his D and you barely hear of him.

The writer is a nitwit. Out of 5 picks, he should have been able to make a reasonable argument, at least, on all of them. On Yao, Wade, and Battier, he comes off as being completely clueless. Most people would say that just on the Wade pick. I've seen Yao Ming rated as low as the 3rd best center. I think the consensus is that he's at best the 2nd best, behind Dwight Howard. How can he be overrated? Does this guy think that Yao is the 4th best center? As far as Battier goes, everybody knows that he's our 6th man, the 6th man on an excellent team. To say he's overrated is to say he doesn't deserve that. Besides, a lot of NBA wizards have said great things about him - including putting him on the national team. Shawn Marion, even, isn't a good pick for this list. I mean, his reputation is that he isn't worth what he's paid. I think people would say he's worth $10-12 million. Overrated means he's worth $8 million? OK, the only one I agree with is Jimmy Page. Awesome writer, but really, a sloppy guitar player.

Dumb analysis. Particularly, the whole b****ing about Battier's FG% and FT%. Battier's TS% is a very good .561 for the season and .559 for his career. The writer isn't even looking at the right numbers when he talks scorign efficiency.
If this guy wants overrated, put in Lebron or Kobe. They get hyped up and appreciated mainly because of their scoring abilities. Lebron is a very good player, but there is no denying he is overrated and overhyped. Kobe is also a very good player, but when I saw him on the all defensive first team over Battier, you gotta be kidding me....... Faux news on the loose again. I think everyone here who has seen how biased Faux news is knows their news are not credible or close to credible. Any news with Bill O'Reilly in it has 0 credibility...... Off the top of my head, I can think of so many more overrated players. Arenas, Pierce, Oden, Bynum etc...
1)defense is nothing to you 2)he is a guy that is so valuable to a team because when you get him, you get a championship level role player. don't count on him as a 2nd/3rd scoring option but when posey can get that kind of credit i really can't understand you have to hate Shane that much 3)spoting at the corner is the coach's idea but not Shane's. with considerable nights only shooting 1/2 shots (2pts in total) shutting down opp.'s top scorer and still average 9/10. how can you blame him on that 4)as the star of his team, i don't really think Gay can give his team a championship but i do believe Battier can as top5 role player in the league
this is the dumbest list ever composed. rockets elite with/without yao? BS. We're better with Yao, period. Calling Shane Battier the #1 overrated player in the NBA ... based on his freakin' stats!?!? Obviously, his consistency in taking every opposing team's best guard/forward out of their game doesn't make shane's stats go skyhigh. holding superstars to shooting %'s of like 30-40% isn't enough I guess. This guy is ridiculous. calling out wade for having literally no supporting cast and not having regained full health!? what a moron. sigh, reading this makes me think they'll let anyone write whatever about sports they know nothing about.
I hate it when people use this year to say we are better without Yao or just as good. We were in the middle of a 12 game win streak when Yao got injured, THE best record in the league since the beginning of the year (and our first game of the new year was a loss!), but when Yao went down we finished the season winning about 2/3rds of the games. We went from winning 80% from our games with Yao going from 10th place to first to 66% settling for 5th seed. Hardly playing better without Yao. The reason people think that stat is valid is because they use stats from the whole season, which includes a 17-17 start.
we also played well without yao last yr. obviously we are better with yao no doubt (how can you not be with a 20-10 guy). but we've proven over and over again that we can play at a high level without yao. i wouldn't say we're elite, but i would say we are still very formidable without yao. that's more of a great tribute to the heart of our team, than to the lack of yao.
Yes, well but not better. And the 06-07 season when we lost Yao it was during a painfully easy part of our season and remember, Deke and Howard were playing way over their heads with Yao gone.
again, winning at a 66% clip is more than well. that put us as one of the top 6-7 teams in the L even without yao ming. deke and howard playing well is more of a tribute to them. scola and landry and deke playing well are more of a tribute to them, the team, and coaching staff. last yr, i was shocked when people panick we wouldn't make the playoffs when we just went 20-10 the year before without yao. i understand the first round elimination prediction, but no playoffs? even if we play without yao for a full season, i'm sure we're still a top 6 seed in the west. but obviously, to win a championship and go far, we need yao. and i think that's all the writer is saying. people shouldn't get offended at that. he's actually praising THE TEAM. why would you want to hear that our team sucks if yao goes out? that would mean we have no help to back yao up. the fact that we do should make us proud. now with artest, if tmac goes down, we wouldn't suck like we do. and that's also a good thing.
If two of our three top players last season were overrated, how in the world did we go on a 22 game winning streak or win 55 games? Tracy must be the most underrated player of all time!!!
