Just wanting to get a feel for what new bands you guys are into right now Most recently I have been listening to: Chemical Brothers (been around a while, new album is good) Starsailor (They are playing SXSW) Strokes Lo-Fi Allstars Jimmy Eat World
Hey Drew, check out: Death Cab for Cutie Black Rebel Motorcycle Club El Gato The White Stripes You're right, that new Chemical Brothers rocks.
I'm getting The Strokes and The White Stripes confused. what do Black Motorcycle Rebel Club sound like, deep? my most recent interests are: Red House Painters Dashboard Confessional
They sound a lot like Jesus and Mary Chain, if you're into them. They are opening for Spiritualized at the Gypsy Tea Room here in Dallas (you are in Dallas aren't you?) next month.
so they're electronic sounding? I don't know that I've ever heard anything by Jesus and Mary Chain. I saw a poster of BRMC at cd warehouse the other day and was kind of intrigued. yes, I'm in dallas. the only thing I've heard by Spiritualized I liked a lot. that sounds like it might be a cool show.
Hey Deepellum- you ever heard of Course of Empire out of Big D?? I know they broke up, but damn they were good.....
I've gotten more into Industrial now than before with CDs by Pig, Ministry, and I just ordered a used Nitzer Ebb CD. I also bought "Mechanical Animals" by Marilyn Manson, and it is really not a bad CD. I wouldn't say it is industrial, but it is a pretty damn good rock CD. I especially like the track, "I Don't Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me)", because of how catchy the melody is. I've also gotten more into heavy metal bands like Anthrax, early Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, and bought a classic CD in "Back in Black". I'm still adding to my Jazz collection as I recently bought a "dylan pick" in Mingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus. Next month (when I buy again), I'm thinking about getting some classic punk rock like the Clash, Sex Pistols, etc. It's amazing how I can continue to find more and more stuff that I want to buy when it comes to CDs. BTW - The new Chemical Brothers CD kicks ass, but their best one, IMO, is still their first, "Exit Planet Dust".
Strokes Placebo Ludacris (he's hilarious) Supergrass Yeah I know half of those are old bands but I rediscovered 'em. -Ninj
The Yo-Yo's Backyard Babies James Michael Nashville p***y American Hi-Fi Beautiful Creatures A Buckcherry Earth to Andy The Katies TSAR The Waking Hours
Not really electronic at all. The only thing about JaMC that was electronic was their drums on their earlier records. Their sound was called noise rock, but it was kinda related to the British shoe-gazer sound, except JaMC was heavier for the most part. Lots of fuzzed-out, feedbacky guitars with melodies slightly reminiscent of 50's rock 'n' roll. BRMC pretty much follows this same pattern. Drewdog, I have never heard course of empire. Gratuitous plug: Not that I like them or anything, but Hoobastank is playing an instore today at the Virgin Megastore at Mockingbird Station. I just started a part-time job there and I'll be working while this is going on. So if any of you Dallas guys want to come by, my name tag will say "Brent".
