People will disagree, but I think West is perfect for this team. If you have followed adelman and although on some of those high scoring teams porter avg 10 asst in the 80's, his offense sets up for a combo type of pg. That's why they brought in James and Francis. That's why he had Bibby as a olympic member. His offense doesn't require a true ball in the hand facilitator like paul, williams or nash. With Tracy, Artest and Tracy, touching the ball and making decisions, that guy needs to be able to shoot a little, penetrate a little and finish. Rafer is neither. He's inconsistent from any range, nor can he finish off dribble penetration. West with his age, skillset and size fits the upgraded team.

I'm still wondering what gives Rafer a free pass from being upgraded? Some talks about him running the team which is a joke. I'll say he runs the ball up only to give tracy the ball. Then we rely on a guy that has never been a deent shooter to become one. His defensive prowess allowed Williams kill him down the stretch in a playoff game with basic inside out dribbles. Some pg's are too big, others are too quick. Yeah he'll have a moment, but look at the total picture. West isn't great, but he's a upgrade over rafer on every level. People have mentioned the price tag which is cool, but why not offer Rafer for West in a sign ad trade with west making 4.2m for 4 yrs? That's within the cap rules, we get rid of Rafer and get a younger better player in his salary spot. Its a win-win for both teams.

head+the 2 non-guaranteed contracts coming from SacTown. Cavs get some more much needed 3 point fire, especially now D.Jones' gone, and also some cap relief.

perfect backup for Rafer. while AB learns how to be a PG.
great insurance if SF3 doesn't come back to form
and good when Barry starts to show his age.

    Morey...get it done!!

i swear 90% of clutchfans doesnt even watch basketball. delonte west would be a GREAT fit for this team. he can hit the open shot and slash his way to the rim....did i mention he could hit the open shot? when was the last time a PG on the rockets could consistently shoot the ball? no GM in the league would take rafer over delonte west.

I doesn't watch Cavs games too much. And I am pondering why he just played about 26 games for the Cavs last season? Was he injured or anything else?
To be frank, Rafer was a outstanding player last season.

Delonte would be an awesome addition to the rockets.
Question is, can we get Landry, Deke, Delonte AND another backup C signed?

Delonte West is a pretty good player.

West will be an obvious improvement over Rafer when it comes to shooting. This one is not even close. He is also a better finisher. Rafer's finishing around the basket, and thus his overall FG% leaves a lot to be desired.

Rafer is better when it comes to getting the Rockets offense going early in the game simply because he has been running it and is familiar with the nuts and bolts. Although, later in the game it does not matter because most of the time McGrady will bring it up. With Artest in the lineup now, Rafer's role in that department will be further diminished.

Delonte West is a pretty good defender. He has the height and quickness. I have also seen him be pretty pesky at times. I think he will play the passing lanes very well and his steals numbers will go up on this team because of having Yao and Artest behind him. I think he can be just as good a team defender as Rafer on Rockets, and he will definitely be a better one-on-one defender.

West is also younger than Rafer and he is only going to get better. Even the most optimistic Rafer fans have to agree that what you see is what you will pretty much get from Rafer.

Considering West's age, potential, athleticism, 3pt fg%, and overall fg%, I would take him without hesitation.

Ofcourse, the ideal situation would be to have them both, since PG is where Rockets are most vulnerable at. But if it comes down to picking one of the two, West would be a better pick because of the upside, and because he is better at the one thing this Rockets team needs most from PG spot...

....the ability to knock down open shots consistently.

If you thought Rafer was being left wide open far too many times by opposition in past few years, better buckle up for 2008-2009 season with Artest added to the mixture.

We don't have to send over anybody. West, being a restricted free agent, just needs a lucrative offer to sign, preferably over 4 mil/per.

As I mentioned in some other threads, I would look at trades including Hayes and Head with possibly even Brooks and Harris, to get such players that would help us more like (in order of preference):

Barbosa (trading Hayes, Head, Brooks and Harris)

Pargo (trading Hayes, Head and Harris)

Delonte West (trading Hayes and Head, and maybe something else)

I think we are deep enough at the four assuming Landry gets resigned and Dorsey can get some scrap minutes there. And I would also like to see us pick up a real back up center even if we resign Deke. I hope not to see Scola playing back up C this year, but rather instead hope to see him logging around 32 minutes per game at the power forward position where he will be most effective. Landry should get any minutes at power forward that Scola doesn't log. Artest should only get minutes there in a situational circumstance where we are going against an extremely small lineup, or we have injuries or serious foul troubles.

    Of course, some think this:

Are you serious? You think Parge and West are no better than Jackson?

Hayes, Head and Harris will be hard pressed to get any consistent minutes playing for this team at all without significant injuries. Brooks' only hope of playing will be that Steve really sucks, which I am not expecting after his surgery, rehab and final year of this small contract.

So I really don't see where you say it is a high price to pay to get a Barbosa, Pargo or West, all players who would definitely get consistent playing time without injuries to this team. Whether or not the other teams make those deals can be debated, but cases could be made as to why they would do it. But assuming they would, I couldn't see Morey passing up on any of those deals, imho.

But then they say stuff like this:

    Bobby Jackson's stats:
Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG

    07-08 -- 72 5 19.3 0.403 0.358 0.790 0.5 2.1 2.5 1.9 0.6 0.1 0.82 1.30 7.7

    Delonte West stats:
Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPGBPG TO PF PPG
    07-08 Not found 35 5 20.8 0.388 0.339 0.667 0.4 2.4 2.7 3.2 0.9 0.3 1.89 1.30 6.8

First, I think these stats speak for themselves. I don't see the turnover problems that you are refering to. Nor do I see the better efficiency that you are referring to.

Second, we are not talking about replacing or trading Rafer for either of those guys, but the back up role players of Hayes, Head, Brooks and maybe Harris. So comparing those guys to Rafer is not necessary.

Then they come back with weak points like:

As if I don't know that they are trying their best to fine any stats from anywhere, even if it is only one per player to justify their weak arguments. So even though I let them slide and don't continue the point..they come back with this:

Would rather hate than deal analytically with my posts huh? That's a poor way to handle discussions. If you are comparing my posts with Sachwhatever's, then you're just a hater. Why do some people hate other people that have thoughts and opinions? I don't recall myself degrading, defaming, insulting, or even complaining about other's posts, which are sometimes, if not many times, nonsensical or worse. What is your real problem? Do you hate that anyone that is new on the board has opinions? Or do you just hate that you don't have enough good opinions? Sad really.

Yet like many in this thread, I think that we could get Delonte West by trading him for Hayes ($1,768,000 2yrs) and Head ($1,962,378 1yr) for a total of $3, 730, 378 per year, of which we could offer him for maybe 3 or 4 years. We could add in one of the other players coming in from Sactown if we need to boost that up by a few hundred thousand.

With only losing Head and Hayes, that most likely won't see much playing time anyway, we still keep all of our PGs to create a really competitive environment. And if healthy and playing well, Steve could possibly even get some time at the 2. We would have playing time problems and issues, but those are the best problems to have because they indicate that you have a tremendous amount of talent on your team to compete for a championship.

For those of you really wanting to keep Hayes, we could take Hayes out the deal and add in Brooks ($1,045,560 1yr) and Harris ($ 711,517 1yr)...that would just about equal Hayes contract to get the dollar amounts the same.

I think doing either of these trades makes our team much stronger, and then assuming that we Landry, Dorsey and Deke, we would only possibly look to add another back-up center and we are DONE!

That's all I'm saying. I think most only see other players when they play the rox, but I watch everyone. Its evident when people bring up the idea of artest coming off the bench which is crazy to me. I thought last year the rox could have used west who was sent to a bad seattle team with a numbers game at the pg spot. Once he was sent to cleveland, he started playing like the guy in Boston. West can play and fits this team to a T. He can run the offense, knock down shots, slash, good ft shooter which is good late in games and a good defender. Top that off he just made 25 yrs old. I would send Rafer in a sign and trade, pay West 4.2m per for 4 yrs and roll. Brooks can back him up and at times u can play the 2 together because he is a good enough defender to guard 2's. The Rafer love is really out of control, francis is done and brooks may just be a backup in this league. West has starts under his belt, has been a consistent contributor playing with Pierce and recently Lebron. I don't know how he can't be on the radar. It would be the easiest 11 ppg ever playing with Artest, Tracy, and Yao. A consistent knock down guy that doesn't settle for 500 3pt atts per year for a guy who could never shoot, even in

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but if you could, wouldn't you much rather keep Rafer and bring in West by only trading Hayes and Head? I mean, that would make our bench stronger at the PG position. I don't think we would have to give up Rafer to Cleveland to get West because they have Mo and Gibson now.

Not to be argumentative, but (and doesn't that sound argumentative...oh, well...) if Grizz want to ease their guard glut why would they take another guard back? I'm not sure what piece gets Lowry but I don't see the Rox having it.

The Cavs, on the other hand, ceded Smith to get Mo (good trade for Cavs IMHO) so I could envision an interest in Hayes (but it would need some more to make $s work, and that probably means Head - if Cleveland wants another undersized 3-pt 2.

D-West was a C when DM the GM was a C. Has anyone noted that DM the GM has been the anti-Gundy by never acquiring a former C?

I guess, but I think West is a better player than rafer. Now maybe cleveland doesn't want rafer since they have Williams and Gibson, so head and francis sign ad trade does make sense. It allows cleveland to have a lot of expirings with snow, wally, francis and head equals 25m in expirings. Anyway u cut it, west should be on this roster.

Yeah, I get your point, but just don't want to give up Franice yet, I would rather save him until the trade deadline if he is not producing at all for us. I think we can give them the same amount of expirings by adding Hayes (even though two year) and Harris instead of Francis. They could use Hayes in with Wallace if they really want a big defensive stop. With Mo and Lebron and whoever else on the floor with those two, they will still have enough offense in.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense to give up head and hayes for west @ 4.m per for 4yrs. I personally think Francis is done and his expiring is going o be used for lt space. I don't think they're going to add payroll after adding Artest. I think that's part of the reason why they're hesitant to give landry a deal unless the get rid of players. The teams want to and should be under lt.

I like the idea of bringing West in, but doubt that we have what it takes to get him. Hayes and Wallace would be a disaster on the offensive end, allowing teams to double team Lebron pretty much the whole possession. I don't think we could get him without giving up something more significant. Head is useless to them since they have Gibson, they wouldn't likely see much value in someone like Mike Harris. That leaves trading something like Landry but then we have a gaping hole at the back up 4 unless you truly believe Dorsey can be the answer there. Theres always the trade Battier to Cleveland but we'd better get alot more then just West for him. I guess the thing to do would be try and get a third team involved.

So by that logic, we should trade Tmac for Kobe, Yao for Amare, Scola for Okafor and Shane for Ron Art...oops, Ron's already with us.

lee, you need to lay off the grass-is-greener-on-the-other side syndrome. That's what I call it.

The players we have are fine. Rafer is fine. He has his weaknesses, he has his strengths. If we jump at every single chance for a minor upgrade, there'd be no continuity on this team, and there are plenty of talented teams in the league that don't perform without continuity.

No one's saying we shouldn't get Delonte. But the fact of the matter is, Rafer runs the offense well, hits his fair share of open shots. Delonte is a better shooter and rebounder, not as good as a floor general, and on par as a defender. If we could, shouldn't we acquire him with surplus pieces rather than with our starting PG?

Of course, that's all based on the conjecture that the front office does want him. Like I said, he has a good skillset. He'll definitely have a place in this league. I was advocating a deal for him round the trade deadline last season, but right now I think with his contract in limbo, he'll definitely want the financial security with whatever team he lands on, which basically rules us out.

I hope Livingston makes it all the back to where he used to be. But I don't understand how something like that happens he was just going for an easy stroll to the basket then all of a sudden snap crackle pop. He says he's 75% I pretty sure some team is gonna pick him up.
