never thought enchiladas y mas fajitas were that great, everything else is. I've always loved pappasitas fajitas. hard to beat
Sorry, Pappasitos fajitas are so much superior to Lupe's and everyone else's, it isn't even close. Lupe's fajitas are good but the meat is over-seasoned and often overcooked. And no onions is a minus. Pappasitos is about as close to fajita perfection as you'll find. The sheer amount of flavor alone makes Lupes taste like burnt bbq.
Maybe it's a location thing. The one in the Greenway plaza ALWAYS substitutes an inedible jalepeno in lieu of onions and peppers.
BINGO!! We have a winner! Lupe's fajitas, taste/texture wise, are no better than any other average tex-mex joint out there. Not even a comparison to Pappasito's which uses a different cut of meat and flavor all together. As for Los Cucos flour tortillas.... dy-no-mite!
Alright, enough of this fawning over Tex-Mex located near 59. I'm going to drop you guys a major hint and if you're courageous enough to follow my words, you may just appreciate what I have to say. Head to the East End and go to Mambo Parrilla at the corner of Wayside and Harrisburg. Yes, they are owned by the same people that own the always-hyped Mambo Seafood, which I've yet to try. However, the fine folks at Mambo make some of the best fajitas and fresh-made tortillas you will try. Is one meat not enough? You can be adventurous and order the Mambo Parrilla Grande which comes with beef fajita, chicken fajita, pork ribs, sausage, and a platter of bubbling cheese. Of course you get staples such as rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, onions (which it sounds like some of these places don't provide you. If you go, be prepared to speak some Spanish. Some of the waitresses will speak English, but the track record goes against this. People on the bus from Mexico stop here on Sunday afternoon before beginning their journey. It really follows that old axiom that if you want to find good food from another culture, go to where that culture eats. There is a good chance you will be the only gringo in the restaurant, so soak it up and enjoy. [/pimping of a great restaurant]
Our business pays for lunch every Friday and Pappasitos in Humble is in our rotation. Those fajitas & onions should be illegal. People who don't eat the onions are missing the boat.
Los Cucos on Mondays/Tuesdays is the best. That is my favorite place to go for Tex-Mex. I'm with you on the green sauce as well. My favorite dishes are the La Bonita and the chicken stuffed avocado.
Lupe's is the greatest. The rest are good, but Lupe's is in a class of it's own. Probably because the tortilla + fajita combination cannot be beat.
Sounds amazing..I live in the east end...so I will give it a try. I don't speak Spanish..but I can fake it well enough to order food.
