That's kinda what I'm saying. When Yao is grabbing his shorts and breathing with his mouth open mid way thru the 1st qt, he probably should come out. It won't be such a minus because with Artest now here, Adelman can afford to rest yao and tracy more. If I was coaching Yao and I'm not, he would play 30-32 mins per. Go ahead and start early on the pattern in which u will rest him and include tv timeouts and stuff to maximize the rest. 18-10 are still high quality numbers in those minutes, plus the rox will have to think forwatd
i thought it would be a victory, i thought yao could whack pau brothers, i thought yi would have his night to prove himself, i was wrong and disappointed, but clap for first 3 quarters.
The condition you described (Yao getting winded in the first quarter) rarely happens anymore. Yes, I know it happened yesterday and against the USA, but he is not 100% and everyone knows it. Yao can handle 35 minutes fine, it is when he is asked to play 40-42 minutes that he has problems. I don't recall Yao getting winded or tired very much in 05-06 or 06-07. JVG did a very good job of giving Yao the minutes he was effective. We know Yao can do better than 18/10. We should expect better. We shouldn't be arbitrarily limiting him to that when he can handle more minutes.
Yao was fine versus team USA. He finished that game strong. Versus Spain Yao got winded, factors probably include 2nd game back, being 60-70%, increased shot attempts and activity than normal in the 4th quarter. If you think that game is indicative of Yao's general conditioning at the peak of the NBA season you are mistaken.
Magnumpro- Go back last year and watch the 4 games in 6 nights and watch the 1st qt of the 2nd game. You'll see it a lot. In fact, it wouldn't even be midpoint and his mouth would be open and grabbing his shorts. Its not a magic theory that I'm talking to you about. I just think if the rox want yao to play well for 6 or more seasons, I would drop his minutes to 30-32. If they did that, especially 30 mins as opposed to 35mins, that saving a whole game every 6 games. That's 13 games a season which comes out to a extra season of 82 games. I would kinda start thinking long term in relation to body wear.
Yes, his body wore down last year because Adelman wanted Yao to play 40 mpg, or even more, which he can't do. 35 is a lot different than 40. This didn't happen much in 05-06 and 06-07, even on back to backs. JVG even remarked how Yao had vastly improved his conditioning to be effective on the back end of a b2b.
You don't do math like that. China is not allowed to have 35 teams for every event. Is it? BTW, I am not sure if this has been mentioned. I haven't read much on this thread. At the beginning I thought this thread was in wrong place and would be moved to the 2008 Beijing Olympic. It is very considerate for Clutch to make an exception at a special time like this and leave it here because many new members would otherwise miss the thread. Now it has turned into a Yao discussion and has a legitimate reason to stay here. Clutch can be human beings, sometimes
Damn I thought it was on at 2:30am. Where can I get a schedule for the basketball games with channels and times? How did Yao do?
