Guys Andre Miller is a BETTER PG then Steve. Steve is a BETTER guard then Miller. They are both GREAT players, and you can build your team around either one. DaDakota
Opinions can be specific. Steve is a good perimeter defender? Why do other point guards have their season highs when it's Steve's assignment to guard them? Steve shouldn't need any help. If we're going to double-team someone it better be a small forward or a center. We should be helping KT and Cato with their assignments, not Steve. Steve plays playground basketball. All he wants to do is make the highlight reel on offense and he couldn't give a rat's azz about defense. "Watch me crossover and make this punk look stupid". He's clowning on defense the way people do in an All-Star game or a pickup game. Meanwhile, Kenny Thomas is standing around doing nothing. Cato is standing around doing nothing. T-Mo is standing around doing nothing. Play-after-play, they run the length of the court just to end up hanging around the perimeter watching Steve play one-on-one. They might as well pull up a chair and watch the show. Maybe they should put a smoking section around the perimeter. How many desperation shots have you seen thrown up just before the shot clock expires? Why do you suppose we have so many?
not necessarily. moochie guards these players a large majority of the time - given our 3 guard offense - and he is, without doubt, a bad perimeter defender. regardless...not every guard in the league has season high's against the Rockets. Our defensive liability is first and foremost an interior one (whereas on Tuesday we played excellent interior defense, with KT and Griffin both getting great blocks in the 2nd half, and, surprise surprise, the Raptors backcourt had a grand total of 17pts, 13 assists and 4 turnovers to the Rockets 60 points, 14 assists and 8 turnovers - i think it is pretty clear which backcourt did the better defensive job in that case - people forget how significant a strong interior defense is on a team's perimeter defense). Once the interior defense improves significantly, I think people on this board will be pleasantly surpised out how good and quick Franic/Mobley can be defensively. They certainly get their fair share of steals as is. That's the point. We do help Cato and KT, more than we should, and that leaves our perimeter defenders vulnerable. I won't deny that sometimes his game is too playground. But definitely not as much as people on this board make it seem. Further, sometimes that type of game is needed. It is a style that many of the better players of today lean towards - T-Mac, Carter, Kobe, etc. Even watching Miller play or Nash play, they have a lot of playground in them as well. Heck, half the time Nash is just running around, licking his fingers like a madman. It's my opinion (which doesnt mean much!) that a team like NJ, for example, who has the prototypical PG in Jason Kidd, won't even make it out of the East because they lack a player who has Francis' style and can, regadless of defense, always create his own shot. And how often is Steve the one taking that shot or the reason because of it. ALmost every desperation shot I can vividly remember has been due to Moochie or Mobley simply holding the ball forever. I just think it is funny how, if the Rockets were on a 45-37 or better pace right now, these issues probably would be rarely brought up. Certainly when your losing you look for someone to blame, but usually its the players who suck, not the ones who are doing a good job.
Well, I think when you say a players "leads" his team to 45 wins that player should probably be the most important player on the team. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Mashburn was the main reason for the Hornets success in the playoffs last season. I'm almost positive he was the primary reason they got past the Heat. Francis on the other hand is undoubtedly the Rockets best player, so the comparison doesn't really work. Then of course theirs the East-West thing that someone already mentioned.
I agree. If we were winning, we wouldn't be looking for solutions to our problems, because there would be nothing to fix. Steve deserves blame because of his position. If he was a ball- hogging 2-guard I wouldn't have as much of a problem with him. But Steve is our point-guard. His job is to distribute the ball to the other players. We are not playing team ball and the other teams are. It's like "Steve vs. the Lakers" instead of the "Rockets vs. the Lakers". We're never going to win like that.
Steve is not a good PG, not by any stretch, he is a good guard, but as a PG he is SORELY lacking. DaDakota
Its posts like these that make me cringe. An obvious Francis hater who must use ALL CAPS in order to attempt to get his point across. Pathetic.
