Don't get upset about it, I actually admire the precision that comes about when 10,000 people are threatened with death.

Where are people getting this $300 million figure from? The number I've read and heard is a total of $100 million for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics and Para-Olympics (which starts in Beijing right after the Olympics are over). $100 million is a lot of money, but it is only a fraction of the production costs of a Hollywood blockbuster movie and the return on investment is probably higher considering how expensive the broadcasting rights are for these Olympics.

no I never get upset over stupidity. I laugh at it. thanks for sharing your ancient bitter memories, although it's really wasting my time. I'd better go back enjoying the games, like everyone else here.

    Are you serious?

If not, put away your McCarthy poster and come on out of your basement bunker to check in on reality once in a while.

I don't want to be a hippie, but it was one of the most fantastic things I've ever seen. Using the four big inventions of Chinese culture as motifs was brilliant. I thought the opening drum sequence was incredible. I was very impressed.

I agree with you but would like to see them come in in an orderly manner as they used to. :p

The discipline and intelligence which always has categorized the Chinese was prominent, especially during the Olympic Flag raising. I enjoyed the Tai-Chi display. SO MANY dudes doing the same freakin' thing. It was unelievable.
    Man, f*k you.

    ;)

Watching it again from my DVR... I only saw 1/2 of it yesterday.

Anyone else besides me noticed that they looped through a few "typical" music hymns and songs that can identify a few countries? Amongst them were the Irish pipes, Chinese song, African bongo music, and--my favorite--of course: The Mexican Mariachi music 'El Son De la Negra'. :) Mrs. SwoLy and I noticed they replayed the song many times during the parade of nations.

EDIT: They also played "El jarabe Tapatío" and, oddly enough while the United States was parading, "LA MADRUGADA" :D

The guy who ran around the stadium on the scroll to light the torch is Ning Li
who is the prince of gymnastics of China in his early age and a successful businessman now.

He spent a half year in practising on the performance. The practice is very hard.Even he must keep the secret of the way which to light the torch to his
family. What he did is absolutely difficult. He is awesome.

    here's the picture of him

Dang he was a hottie in his heyday! :)

He did an incredible job. Everyone in the world was impressed! I couldn't have kept swinging my legs like that around the stadium even at my peak physical condition!

Don't feel bad. Not many people can win six medals(including three gold) in a single olympics( 84, LA). And certainly not many can win six golds in a single world cup(82,Zagreb).
