deke makes our perimeter defense stable when yao is out so we should try to keep him, specially now w/ ron and shane, their defense will be even better being on the same team being able to take turns guardin the kobes and w/ deke backin up yao our perimter defense is stable, which is not fair for the opponents but it wasnt fair seeing the rox play w/ yao and tmac half a season and jvgs offense.
other than resigning deke just for pure backup size in case of an injury(knock on wood) we dont really need another true backup c. since we are always the team with the upper hand at the C position, teams look to adjust to yao and they usually look to match their best center with yaos minutes. and yao plays more minutes than most every other center. so unless you find some team like.....(help me out)... that has a legitimate secondary scoring center, our pf's like dorsey scola and hayes in a center rotation can hold most any backup c in this league, and if not i dont see that being a huge factor in a 7 game series. sign landry for that offense and intensity he brings and that flexibility to rotate one of our better defending power forwards to the center position when the other team has thier backup c in.......
Francisco Elson is about to sign with the Bucks http://blogs.hoopshype.com/blogs/sierra/2008/08/10/official-elson-to-milwaukee/
Just resign Deke and pray Yao stays healthy. A backup center really won't be the primary problem as most teams don't even have a real center and Dorsey should be able to fill the third string spot.
Hopefully, we sign Deke, and just rotate Dorsey and Hayes when needed. I'm assuming we'll probably try to replace Loren Woods with someone. The main guy I'd love to get is David Lee, who is out of favor with NYK. I don't know if we can get him with just Head, but hopefully Morey could do some magic.
Any link,or are you basing it on inside sources? I would like Lee too,he could be a backup C/PF IMO.Getting him would be very difficult. The most what the Rockets could offer would be a combo of Head,Hayes,Harris and the 2nd round pick from Memphis/Clippers. Why would David Lee be out of favor with NYK anyway?
I`m sure a combination of expirings + memphis 2nd round pick might net us Lee, but I`d rather get Crawford.
Given the avaiable list that people are putting out are pretty much all stiffs (Pachulia, Sean Williams, Boone, Petro, etc), the Rockets might as well stick with their current bigs filling in at C. I don't see why people are obsessed with putting some relatively young 7 footter there when these guys never makes a positive difference with their current teams.
i think its because were basicly lookin for that diamond in the rough maybe we'll get lucky n someone like sean williams develops... after i saw wat he did in the rookie sophmore game im sold i think he has great potential maybe a poor mans amare stoudimire in the future.
We do not need a stiff, but we do need a young backup C with more height, defensive ability, rebounding and backup scoring. We need more depth than what Deke can give us. Yao needs less minutes. Dorsey has got long arms but is a foul machine,Hayes is a good defender but he is overmatched at times. Luis' strength is scoring and hustle but he isn't a reliable defender. Neither can Landry be counted on to play at the 5. Sean Williams is a 4,and is no stiff. He is a terrific shotblocker. I'm not advocating trading for him but get your facts right. Zaza is a bit slow, but he is a useful backup 5. I'm not keen on Boone and Petro seems useless to me.
My feeling is that the Rockets management want to see what they have in the current frontcourt players before making any long-term moves. I think it's likely that one of the power forwards will be gone by next off-season -probably to give his spot up for a bigger backup 4 - but the question is which one. As I wrote in another thread, my guess is that Hayes may be the odd man out. But it won't happen until the management knows what they have in Dorsey, which won't happen until at least the trade deadline but probably the entire season. Ideally, Mutombo would re-sign for another year while the Rockets sort themselves out. But even without Deke, it sounds like they're not really desperate to find a stopgap measure at the backup C.
i would love to have chriss webber somehow, is he or has he signed with another team, i think for 10-12 minutes to back yao he would be ideal when we decide to go small
