Okay, I'm just trying to get some opinions about something and would like to hear what you think. I bought new tires for my car (350z) about 13k miles ago. Recently, I've kind of heard some noise coming from my rear tires and thought I was low on air or something was wrong with the exhaust. I get up underneath my car and come to find out, both of my rear tires are worn bald with a little metal showing but only on the very inside of the tires...both rear tires. Now, from the outside, my tires still look new. I don't drive my car hard, especially with $4 supreme gas, and the tread on all my other tires looks unworn. So here's my question, do you think when i bought the tires that the guys at discount tire mounted/balanced my rear tires wrong? I noticed that it looks like my rear tires sit a little off center from my front tires. I plan on taking my car up to discount because I honestly shouldn't have only the very inner parts of my rear tires looking like they are compared with how I drive. Do you think discount owes me some new rear tires? Like I said, only 13k miles and the rest of the tred on the tires look relatively new. Thanks.
Yes, go back and tell them. Your info will be on the computer with the tires ur purchased with the date. It won't hurt to ask. They may have given you a bad tire. Balding already on a 13k tire sounds suspicious. If anything, they will give u credit for that bad tire for a new one. Good luck~
It sounds like you have bad struts or alignment, but I would bet struts. Do you have custom rims on your car? If you do, it may be the reason why you struts are bad.
sounds like you have negative camber on both rear tires; its an alignment issue the camber may be adjustable, but you might have prematurely worn struts go get a four wheel alignment done and then replace the tires the tire place is going to tell you to go pound salt
negative camber and it's probably normal for that vehicle. 13k tire miles is a lot for a sports car of that caliber.
Agreed...I thought high performance tires don't last long...I doubt your tires have a warranty, but I'd chekc..I had a similar issue with mine but on the outside of the tire...I need to get an alignment done.. Are Yokahama good tires? I've had problems with Mich. b/f and my goodyears barely lasted 35K miles...
I recently went through the same thing at Discount Tire. My back tires were pretty bad, but my front tires still had plenty of tread on them. They ended up prorating the tires and I was able to put that credit toward my new ones. Good luck! Pugs
Yeah, I have 20 x 10 wheels on the back. I think the stock rims are 18x8 but I'm not sure. I'll have to get up there some time this week. I'm hoping I don't have to pay for all new tires because I barely feel like I've broke the current ones in. So with me having custom rims, does this mean this will always be a problem? thanks guys
What year is your Z? The earlier models ('03, '04) had major issues with tire feathering due to bad alignment specs and slight changes in suspension. I had an '05 and that's the year where it seemed to clear up. I now have an '08 Grand Touring, but with only 2500 miles. Also, 13,000 miles on rears driving a Z is pretty damn good. I had to change my first sets at 7500 miles (crappy stocks/then heavy foot) then the second set at 10,000 miles, but the second set were Yoki's. I don't race, I never burn 'em and I only drive around 10,000 miles a year. My fronts didn't need to be changed until right at 28,000 miles. If you're a heavy miles driver expect at minimum to buy rear tires at least once a year. It doesn't matter if you have a lead foot or not. It's a sports car, and this is one of those inconveniences you've gotta deal with.
Yeah, it's an '03. Do you remember if there was any kind of recall or anything or what I should do to fix it? I only have 49k on it and I only drive like 8k a year also. I figured with the low miles and light driving they'd last longer than they have.
I remember when I had my Z (it was an '03) that I had to have Z rated tires and that these tires only lasted like 30K miles or maybe even less than that. I also found out real quickly that these tires cost a fortune (it seemed like one tire cost around $300). Now that I think about it - I think there is a reason why I don't have that car anymore.
I believe Nissan agreed to give one set of rears to those with issues back in the day, not sure about it now as the issue has gone away. BTW- http://www.my350z.com/forum/ Awesome forum for any Z/GTR/G35/G37 owner.
