I think that Scola, if we go far, would be a major reason. Since i think the Rockets should limit Yao's play (and they should) for durability reasons the next best big we have right now is Scola. And just to think that we got him for almost nothing is mind boggling .... Looking at Argentina in the pre olympic games,at times, he is playing better than Ginobeli, being more of the leader and taking control. And argentina is a world power! I just think that with the big pieces we have (Yao Tmac Artest which im so happy we have them) the Rockets should not put Scola aside and let him get he ball, post him up, and let him work! Thats all i gotta say about that Go Rockets!!
I like Luis too,but he can't give much rest to Yao IMO.He might get a few more open looks down low with the attention focused on Tracy and Ron,which can give him some easy layups.

I agree that Scola is a great player but he is not a substitute for Yao. They both feed off of each others game, scola gets more open looks for a 15 footer or Yao can go 1 on 1. I believe that we have a gapping hole at the center position when Yao goes to the bench.
I think that if they rest yao alot (which they should to prevent an injury) they will put Scola at the 5 Artest at the 4 and battier at the 3 and go small. I think Artest and Scola could compliment each other good. o well i guess only time will tell that.
I don't think most NBA fans fully appreciate Scola as a player. Everyone seems to perceive Scola as on a lower level than the "superstars" Yao and Tmac. But we have to understand, on international level basketball, Scola has superstar status on par with Yao, Tmac, Kobe, Lebron, etc. We need to stop thinking of Scola as playing second fiddle to Yao and Tmac and start realizing his full ability of being an elite international player. So instead of thinking of him as backup, we need to think of him as first line of attack.
lol Scola as a starter is the only reason the rox started winning games all of a sudden the guy is a beast. Apart from artest im looking forward to him the most. He was our 2nd offensive weapon on a much depleted team, i love the guy, his willingness to hustle and determination to never give up. God bless you scola just stay healthy man... I can't wait to see this lineup at some point during a game. T-mac Artest Battier Scola Yao just can't wait damn...
I really don't think he gets the credit he deserves. The guy does so many things well that don't show up in the stat sheet. If he was more athletic or had bigger size he'd be a big force down low... he makes it up with his smarts though. He's in my top 3 fav. NBA players: 1. Ming 2. CB4 3. Scola
Scola has very very good low post moves. And at times, his hustle brings in a lot of points. However, sometimes its painful to watch him spin around in the post, forcing a bad shot. He needs a better heads up play, and make less forced shots when their are more than 2 defenders around him. I do like him though, very productive and very hard working.
I absolutely love Scola and think he will be a significant contributer this upcoming season. However, fairweather Rockets fans that I've been around hate him because he "misses easy layups" and "sucks". I hate immature people sharing their oinion when they are not knowledgeable at all. They are all like "Scola sucks! Landy is wayyyyyyyyy better! Have you seen his dunks?! Scola sucks and we won Game 3 because of Landry!" I like Landry but Scola is better and doesn't get the credit he deserves that's for sure. Here's to a big season to Scola and prove the haters wrong!
he can play, that's for sure he definitely helped us get wins last season and will definitely help this year. why did san antonio give him up again?
I real hope scola of the international game shows up. Where he is willing to step up and demand the ball instead of just playing 3rd fiddle, and now maybe even 4th fiddle in the rox squad. Scola could be the Big 4, instead of just the big 3.
The video showed 10 plays where Scola was working the paint, but not any of his jump shots. Playing with Yao, most teams will give him the 10-15 ft open jumper. Scola could really up his game with some improvement in his outside shooting and a little more consistancy at the free throw line. I look for the Rockets to run a few more set plays for him and one way may be to run Yao out of the high post.
I agree. At times last season, it's almost like he's content to just hustle and pick his spots. He's much better than that. I don't know if it's because of his first season playing with superior athletes and competition or what, but look for him to really take a step forward this season. A line-up of Tmac-Ron-Shane-Scola-Yao could be very very very dominant if everything clicks.
I think that as most in this thread agree with so far, that we will actually have a BIG 4 in Houston with Scola in our starting lineup. It will make it so hard for teams to double team with Tmac, Artest, Scola and Yao on the floor. The only man that they can double off of is Rafer, without a very high percentage of getting creamed for double teaming. If we upgrade Rafer with a higher percentage shooting PG, omg, we would murder people. Scola's game is perfect for this team because he is patient enough to pick his spots, doesn't demand the ball to get his points, and is a hustler. If he can stay out of foul trouble and hit the 10-15 footer and his free throws consistently as another poster pointed out, he will be another 12-15 ppg and 8 rebs for us; effectively being able to call that a BIG 4! Let's go Scola....work on that 10-15 footer and those free throws!
