    Carl Herrera,

    I'll take up your challenge.

Head is more of a 6th man role player. He's the kind of guy that can come off the bench & offer some serious offensive punch. That's the problem though. He's a one dimensional player. However, for the right team, he could be worth his weight in gold. That team could be us, or we could use him to help shore up another area of weakness.

I agree we need some experienced help at the PG position, but I believe we need to take a longer look at the backup center position. Yao has proven to be injury prone (imo, due to the year round pounding he takes) & Mutombo is really effective for short stretches, but not as a full time starter. Thus, we need to get a young player in here to start grooming as a fill-in starter. Dorsey may, or may not, be able to fill that role, but he's not a traditional NBA center (yet) & he's undersized at 6'9".

My personal preference is & has been Johan Petro of Seattle/OKC. I would make an offer of Head/Memphis 2nd round pick for him, but common sense tells me he may be untouchable for what we'd be willing to offer. So, why not take a look at his backup?

Houston sends Head to Seattle/OKC in exchange for Mouhamed Sene/2nd round pick.

He hasn't played a lot, but he's young (22 y/o), has good size (6'11" 230lbs), & has shown flashes of talent. His contract has only for 2 years left on it. If he doesn't develop, we can let him walk & still end up with a pretty good 2nd round pick. Just some food for thought.

I've said it once and I'll say it again (please correct me if this wouldn't work)

    Memphis receives
    Luther Head (from Houston)

    Houston receives
    cash considerations (from Memphis)

Cash is more useful for the Rockets than Head... well because... it rhymes with splash. Head will be redundant just like Mo Taylor was when we brought in Juwan. If we don't trade him soon, we'll trade him later.

haha they wouldn't do that without the 2nd rounder and cash.
i would of said get childress but he went to europe, he's great of the bench and he can dunk, and his afro is sick.

I say trade him for cash/draft picks, he won't be seeing much time on the floor anymore with Artest in Houston now. Also we can have more flexibility next draft, there will be so many trades next season.

    Two things here:

1st, I doubt and don't think that Phoenix would even be willing to trade Barbosa, so all of this is just wishful thinking; although I am like you, I would love to have him on this team.

2nd, Your trade works and makes perfect sense, but I am not willing to give up on Steve yet and would much rather do the trade using Aaron and Harris to make it work. Maybe Phoenix would like a guard like Aaron to learn under Nash, more than they would the expiring contract and non-expectation of Steve. I am not sold yet on Aaron's future potential as a starter. I just think he is a 6-8 year backup in this league. If we could get someone like Barbosa by using him in a trade, I think it's a no brainer because Barbosa has a better and longer future in the league than Aaron, imo.

The Suns have been trying to trade him all summer and are enamored with their foreign pick.....I think because of the cap either will work but I really believe they could use a scorer like Head, a scrappy forward in Hayes, and Francis would be cut. It could get them under the cap, maybe, away from the luxury cap which is eating them alive that they are the most expensive team and so old.

I think we're better off keeping him...as long as we put him on the floor with another good ballhandler either Artest or McGrady. So as long as he won't have to play point guard he can just be a another shooter off the bench.

Head, Brooks and Francis for Barbosa is not outlandish for either team. Phx drops salary and gets players to somewhat fill Barbosa's role + maybe a future back-up to Nash, we get the better individual talent/player. If they want Hayes/Harris instead of Francis's expiring that is fine too.

Phx loses major value in either case, but Phx needs a better bench and to cut costs, so giving up a talented player who just doesn't seem to fit great with them might be OK in the big scheme.

Man I don't know where I have been, but I had no idea that they were seriously trying to trade Barbosa. I just thought there were people rumouring the idea with no sources. He played poorly in the first round last year, but his overall stats are awesome and don't tell the real story of his quickness, etc. :

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
    07-08 PHX 82 12 29.5 0.462 0.389 0.822 0.5 2.3 2.8 2.6 0.9 0.2 1.43 2.40 15.6
    Career 352 93 26.2 0.469 0.409 0.809 0.4 2.0 2.4 2.8 1.0 0.1 1.59 2.40 12.7

Yes I would like to keep Francis because I think he is our wild card this year that will give us that unexpected edge, and Brooks, if highly looked at by the Suns as some other teams, might be a good project for them under Nash as you stated.

Also, while Barbosa still has three years left on his contract, Brooks, Head and Harris' contract all fall over next year, so that if they don't work out for Phoenix, they lose about $3.7 mil off of there books next year, with another $1.7 mil coming off the next year with Hayes. So if Barbosa doesn't fit their style and plans, they get good finacial help for the near future. Heck, for Barbosa, I would even throw in a 2nd round pick to get this deal done. Is Morey on the phones yet? :) I'm sure if it is remotely possible, the Guru is already on to it and trying to work out the details.

Im not sure how much he made last year, or what he is looking for this year since he is a restricted free agent, but I would love to trade Hayes/Head/Brooks for Delonte West...taking off Brooks if the deal would work that way for Cleveland, which I doubt. West is a great spark and threat and his stats speak for themselves:

Any thoughts? Do you think that would help the team or not?
