just got back from depositions in Brownsville. My local counsel treated me to an outstanding tex mex lunch that featured puffy tacos. Where can I get that in Houston?
lol I think he was..... I was flipping thru channels and going damn that looks good as hell. The closest thing they got to Tex Mex in Portland is Chipotle or Baja Fresh I'm sure theres some nice mexican joints around but I have no idea which and where they are.
I think they were supposed to open a taco palenque in houston. I hope your quest for finding this puffy taco goes well, because I too, love all tacos, even those greasy breakfast tacos from el pato. =)
You cannot get a decent puffy taco anywhere outside of San Antonio or the valley. There is one place here in Round Rock that has very good ones...but of course the owner of the place is from San Antonio.
No, a puffy taco is essentially a taco. The main difference is the way the tortilla is fried. If you've ever fried a tortilla, you'll notice that if you keep it on one side long enough, it will bubble up. It makes for a chewier taco shell.
Interesting, I dont remember mama making these. She would roll them, throw them between a kitchen towel and my brothers and I would fight for them.
Gringo's Mexican Kitchen has really good one that we just introduced 2 months ago. Tasty and very unhealthy.
LMAO... Yeah he was watching throwdown..it came on last night as well...I was in San Antonio in June but didn't have a chance to make it out to that restaurant...next time...I have never seen it here in Dallas, but that doesn't mean much...
Don't know about Houston, but the best puffy tacos in Austin are at El Caribe on Lamar and Koenig. Jus' sayin'
