Sorry if this has made it into another thread. I know how many fans Rosen has here... Charley Rosen Q & A
This is the kind of crap that ticks everyone off about the NBA's refs. They are basically saying that they don't ref the guy with the same fairness as everyone else. For maybe different reasons, but this is EXACTLY what we suspect about how they ref YAO. The NBA needs to clean up this type or mentality, if it is not the top who is promoting it, or they will lose fans in the long run.
I have to wonder how old that quote is. I think the guy only got two Technical fouls last year (The famous Utah game). I could be wrong on that though...
Nah, I was wrong. He had 8 and 1 ejection. ESPN: NBA 2007-2008 Technical Foul Leaders Thats good for 23rd in the league. He had less than even Cuttino Mobley did
I get what you are saying, and saw the correction in the next post, but seriously...in that Utah game, his reason for ejection was poor at best. It's like they were targeting him even though it was Utah that was playing the most physical and he was just playing the same game as they were. So I think that some of what was quoted still goes on, although it may be decreasing as time passes away from the brawl. Hopefully, by him being with the Rockets that have Yao, Tmac, Adelman, etc., they refs will give him a different look and a break and ref him fairly this coming year. We can dream right?
Yup, exactly. It just confirms some of the worst kept secrets in basketball officiating. 1) The stars get the calls 2) 4th quarter fouls or "playoff fouls" 3) Certain players are officiated differently Add in everything from the Donaughy scandal and the integrity of the NBA has never been under closer scrutiny. It's almost to the point of why should Stern and the top brass even deny these suspicions aren't true anymore?
Agreed 100%. Couldn't have said it better myself. They should just confess and express their desire to take the league in a better direction. That would draw fans back into the game that are disgusted with this kind of unfairness.
And what ticks me off is all those players on Utah that play the same way as Artest with more dirtiness in terms of low blow activity get the respect of the refs.
Once again, Rosen is full of crap. Hakeem scored the majority of his points with his back to the basket. He defined low post scoring. The fact that he could create separation with his dream shake doesn't mean he wasn't *the* preeminent low post scorer of his day. He had a nice jump hook he used turning to the paint, as well as numerous drop steps and counter moves. Most of the were from the f-ing low post! He used the face up game much less. Gene Peterson didn't say "backin' it in, backin' it" a million because of Otis Thorpe's post game! In conclusion, I hate Charlie Rosen.
seriously did rosen ever watch hakeem? our bread 'n' butter was throwing it to Dream in the post, drawing the double team, throwing in a hook, faking to the baseline. he didn't shoot a 1/4 as many jumpers as ewing, and rarely took his man off the dribble (except for that lovely move on Mr. Robinson on Game 1 '95 WCF)
...and from what I've heard, it is 10x better than Euro officiating. Nevertheless, how Yao gets officiated is one of the most frustrating things. It got better last season and hopefully this season he'll be treated somewhat equally. If so ...championship is ours.
You have to think that at 28, Artest has matured somewhat and is learning what he can and can not get away with......at least I hope so... DD
Euro officiating leans towards rewarding flops, allowing 3 step traveling, etc.....but at least it's consistent and the same for all the teams/players...
Rosen is an idiot who doesn't know Hakeem Olajuwon or his game and should have his faulty brain checked or better yet, removed, for misinterpreting what it saw or what it thinks it saw. Hakeem came into the league dominating as a low-post scorer with back-to-the-basket moves and pure power. He added finesse to his game later to counter low-post players who were bigger than he was like Mark Eaton, James Donaldson, etc. Hakeem had the most complete inside-outside game of any center of the past 20+ years. Rosen, you're an idiot, a moron, and even worse, you know not of what you speak, you wannabe-expert-turned-fool.
