One year ago I woulda thought it unthinkable: drop Hakeem. Six weeks ago, I still thought the same. Now, I don't know... There's no denying that his production has gone down - way down... He hasn't been himself since the surgery (before that...), but he's not even looking like NBA material lately. For the past few weeks I've watched him WALK across the court to D, stand there doing nothing while a slasher runs by him, and keep his heels on the floor when a rebound pops up. This is NOT the Hakeem of old. And I have a feeling that this isn't just a slump... If the man doesn't produce at all, then why are we retaining him? I've been a Hakeem fan for years, and we owe 2 championships to his play, but c'mon?!? Are we really going to keep him signed for another year? If so, then next year might turn out to be an even bigger disappointment than this year. Next year we won't be able to write it off as 'rebuilding'. Next year, we'll just suck. The Rockets cannot possibly take the Hakeem situation more seriously. Unless he starts to produce, then they will have a hard decision to make... I think Rudy might be holding hope against hope in this situation.
Mr. Ed errr Olajuwon. I won't rehash my earlier handle but this is a joke. 0-9!! I can understand anything up to about 0 fer 6, after that, there is no excuse. ESPECIALLY for a center who shoots close to the hoop. Missed 2 dunks and 2 point blank layups. This is a TOTAL LACK OF CONCENTRATION. I know I am 6 feet and just because I can play ball against scrubs doesn't mean I can play in the NBA, but I know I can make atleast 1 shot out of 10. We have to put up with him for another year? Oh, we owe him though. All he's done for us, we should give him a 5 year extension. Dream.....the next Charles Jones. Sorry Charles, didn't mean to insult you.
