Anyone ever seen Hagar in concert (w/o Van Halen)? The guy puts on a serious show (or used to, anyway).

I heard that, in 1983, Hagar and Styx were part of the Texas Jam (is that what you mean by Rockfest, behad? or is that another thing? is one in Dallas and another in Houston?) Anyway, Styx played after Hagar. BAD IDEA. The audience was throwing stuff onto the stage (bottles and such) and booing them unmercifully. Apparently the Kilroy Was Here theatrical show ("domo arigato Mr. Roboto") didn't play as well as Hagar. Not in Texas, anyway.

No, Rockfest was a trade show, with lots of booths and performers and stuff. It was held in the AstroHall.

I think the Texxas Jam in question was later than 1983, like 1985 or 86. I was at Texxas Jam in 1984 and Rush was the Headliner, with Ozzy Osborn, 38 Special, and I forget who else.

Edit: I looked it up. Texxas Jam #6 WAS Styx and Sammy Hagar in 1983. My bad.

I don't remember Ozzy playing but I was late. I mainly wanted to see Rush(that was their Grace Under Pressure tour). I remember having to sit through 38 Special...they were rather quite large back then. My seats weren't too good. I remember people in my section were passing around doobies and cocaine...if you can believe that(losers).

Also, worst concert experience for no good reason at all: Myself and some friends went to Waterworld with a plan to sneak into the Night Ranger concert from Waterworld as it was closing. We were in and out of Waterworld all day going back to the dome parking where our van was loaded with a cooler full of beer and other things ;). We would party a little while and return to Waterworld. Anyway, we were only wearing thongs and when Waterworld was closing...we took off running for an open gate near the train tracks. We made it through and pretty soon we were under the Dexter Frebish. These people could see us as they were riding the rollercoaster. So, we made our way along the train tracks to the outdoor concert venue with no clue how we were going to get in. Well, we didn't make it and were spotted by Astrodome personnel. Pretty soon...we had the damn personnel and security chasing us through heavy brush where these huge ant mounds were. We all got caught and thought we were busted bigtime. But, fortunately they told us to get the hell out of there and we caught the last train from Waterworld. What an experience...we had no clue how to get from Waterworld to the concert. I felt like an escaped prisoner....hahah.

Second worst concert experience: Deep Purple Perfect Strangers tour...two hours before the show I'm doing something with a double-edged Exacto knife in my hand with a firm grip. My dumbass friend decides to grab the bottom of the knife and yank it from my hands pulling down. Suffice to say he cut my hand up really bad when he did that. He had no reason for doing it and was so stupid he didn't know how bad he was going to cut me. So, I go to the Deep Purple concert in serious pain with a big bandage rapped around my hand absolutely hating life. What made it worse was the seats were behind the stage on upper prom  .

RMTex proving he is an old fart, yet again......

My first concert of any kind was Pete Seeger at Hofheinz Pavilion, in a benefit for Cesar Chavez, in 1968. I was 7 years old at the time.

My Mom took me. Yes, my friends, you could consider her a liberal, although, as with many people, she has become more conservative as she has gotten older.

My first "big" concert was Chicago :)eek:) at the Summit (Compaq Center)...in 19-freaking-76.

My last "big" concert, other than Dylan at the Rodeo a couple of weeks ago, was the Who at Woodlands Pavilion in August 2000.

Thats awesome Tex. I have many of his albums (before he went into music for kids) but never have had the priveledge to see him live.

First concert for me was Olivia Newton John at the summit in 1978 (I think).

Last one was Bob Dylan last year at the Scranton Amphitheater.

I was working at Bally's in the Village that night. We went to the roof top and watched the laser show in the rain!!!

The last BIG show I was at was Black Crowes, Blues Traveler, Joan Jett, Vallejo, Push Monkey and some other band. Tesla was supposed to play but got held up buy the 9/11 attack.

I went to see System of a Down and Clutch a few weeks ago and MAN was that a KICK ASS CONCERT!!!!!

My first show was the Van Halen show in 1984 at the summit.
My last show was 2 years ago at the House of Blues on sunset blvd. where I saw the Cult. They sold out 7 nights in a row, a Houes of Blues record. It was awesome!!

I was at that one too!

In case y'all haven't noticed, I went to a LOT of concerts in the early to mid '80's LOL

This was after the 1984 album, right? The first time they used keyboards. Eddie was above the stage on keyboards on one side, and Michael Anthony was on keyboards above the stage on the other side. Correct?

The Van Halen 1984 show.....which I camped out for in a van at Almeda Mall, ended up falling asleep, and waking to a big line :(...sold out two shows. Just which show were you at exactly? Huh? :p

I was at the second show...upper prom on the side. I distinctly remember these dikes or hot chicks or whatever they were(its with breasts) dancing on the PA system in the back of the floor to spotlights during the break before Van Halen came out. Don't remember much about that show except may "Eruption" and the end where the "1984" lights were flashing.

First: Ozzy with Motley Crue opening
Last: ZZ Top at the Rodeo

All time favorite: Seeing W.A.S.P open for Iron Maiden at the Summit and then driving to Cardi's right afterwards to catch Armoured Saint and Metallica.

I got a weird concert experience for ya. I might have posted it here before, but it's worth another post.

Back in 1980 or 1981, I was in Houston working for the summer in-between semesters at UT-Austin. I worked in a mailroom for a large company. Two of the guys I worked with were big Deep Purple fans. One day, we heard on KLOL that Deep Purple was going to be in concert at the old Music Hall downtown. The two guys were both like "hey, I thought Deep Purple broke up...Ritchie Blackmore has been fronting Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow...what's up with this?" but we went ahead and all bought tickets anyway.

The day of the show comes, and the three of us get liquored up and head down to the Music Hall. The lights go down, and the intro music plays, and a big British flag backdrop lights up, and then "Deep Purple" hits the stage....but they are all impostors.

Boos rained down on the band, nearly drowning out the music. People were walking up to the stage and flipping them off. Food and drink were not allowed into the seating area and for good reason....those would have been thrown as well. My two friends were pissed off, and we left after two songs.

    So what happened?

Deep Purple's former manager, and their original singer (fired before Deep Purple ever made it out of the pubs in London) somehow got posession of and permission to use the name Deep Purple. So, they hired 4 young musicians from California and hit the road.

It was legal, unfortunately for Deep Purple fans. I think the impostors did two weeks worth of gigs before Ritchie Blackmore himself obtained some type of court injunction to stop it.

It was definitely the weirdest concert experience of my life.

    SurfGuy,
I actually went to the frist two shows. Do you remember when the guy threw his beer on David Lee Roth, and David told the band to stop playing so he could call the guy out. The guy was so scared he started running towards the exit. Then David yelled out, "Sombody catch that M***er F***er". Later in the show Roth then yells that they had the guy back stage, and after the show the band was gonna kick his A**. I thought that was so cool. Then I went the second night, and they did the same thing all over again. That's when I knew it was just a show, and what a show it was.

Honestly, I've seen that same situation so many times with other bands that I wouldn't remember it. I know I saw that happen for real with Metallica at the Summit...forget what tour. SOmeone through a small glass thingy(like a vial or something) at Lars Ulrich. The band stopped and threatened to beat that dude up and said all this stuff. Don't remember it at the VH show, though.

I guess there were 3 sold out shows for the VH 1984 tour....I think that's right. If you were at the 2nd show, then you had to see the topless girls dancing on the PA system on the back of the floor with the spotlights. Maybe that was part of the show. I highly doubt it was spontaneous.

When I said I fell asleep in the van camping out for tickets, I think it was more like passed out from partying. It was so hilarious...we were partying it up from like 10 pm on and security wouldn't let you park on the mall property. So, we parked over near the cinema across from Foley's. We partied from like 10 pm to 3 a.m. bragging about how we were gonna get first row. Then, we passed out and woke up around 7 or 8 am to find a huge line. We ended up getting second show seats...upper prom on the side. We would have been the first in line had we stayed up and for sure gotten 1st row as these guys came out of Almeda jumping up and down "WE GOT FIRST ROW CENTER!!!". :(

My first was Metallica/The Cult in 1989. I could have left after the Cult. Metallica was uninspiring, however the Cult was great. I've always loved them.

My last - I haven't the slightest. I'm most excited about the next though they're well past their prime.

The Who at the Tweeter Center on August 24th.

keeley, after seeing The Who on VH1's concert for New York, they may be past their prime but they were the best band at that concert.

I wasn't going to go see them until I saw that, Bobbo! I really got into them when Live At Leeds came out on CD about five and a half years ago. I wondered what it would have been like to be at the show they recorded at - it was great. Then I saw the Concert for NYC and saw that they were still doing well... so for 32.50, what do I have to lose?

SummerFest in Milwaukee and Taste of Chicago every single year, usually on back to back nights.

Of course those aren't the greatest places to see them. Panic also plays Halloween every year at UIC Pavilion. They're great live.
