I was watching TV the other day and saw a bunch of the cliched scenes where a guy finds the girl that got away and breaks up her wedding. Most of these end up with the girl leaving the groom for said guy. Well it got me thinking.

Has anyone here heard any true stories of this ever actually happening? If so how did it end up?

I tried googling it briefly, but came up with nothing but movie hits.

I've always wondered about this myself.

I like to think about it and wonder if I could do that if I cared enough for a girl and interrupt a wedding and looking like a big loser. :(

I wondered about that too. But I think it's strictly a movie thing. In real life, if you've already paid for everything and everyone showed up to your wedding, you're not going to upset them by not going through with it. Everyone would question your sanity forever after, and it would be great gossip for everyone. Better just to marry the person, not consummate it, and get an annulment, then tell everyone later. Still won't look great, which is why (as bad as this is) most people go ahead, try to live with the marriage, and have to get divorced later down the line when they can't live with it.

The movies exist because a lot of people fantasize about a life where they could do this, where at the last minute everything shakes out and they get what they always wanted. Not like real life where, by the time you've sent out the invitations and everything, you're essentially married because there's no real going back.

I plan to pay some redneck to come to my wedding and shout "I love her, and she's carrying my baby" when the preacher asks if there are any objections. Then I'd go kick his ass.

If you're going to make a bunch of people waste their time going to a wedding you may as well do your best to make sure they're entertained.

Pretty much. If you had info or felt strongly about stopping a wedding, do it before the actual wedding! The only one I read about was Stephen Jackson stopping his wedding while everyone was in the church waiting for it to start.

The weddings that I have been to in the past several years have omitted the "if there is anyone who objects" line from the ceremony.

Most preachers/pastors/fathers don't even ask if there are any objections anymore.

I'm pretty sure I saw on a weddings from hell program one wedding where it happened.

A guy came yelled out he objected. Then both families took him outside and beat him. :D

Actually, I have heard of this happening. My friend attended a wedding where, when the preacher asked if anyone had any objections, the bride turned to the groom and said, "yeah, thanks for ****ing my bridesmaid." Then flung the bouqet at him and stormed off. Apparently the groom had taken liberties with one of the bridesmaids the night before and intelligence had gotten back to the bride.

Yeah, I think that most, if not all, weddings are omitting this line. You only hear it in movies.

I hear more about Runaway Brides than anything

Hell . . . just the interruption would be enough to kick the crap out of you
    "Anyone object"
    "yea"
    *CRACKUPSIDETHEHEAD*
    "Anyone else?"

This thread got me wondering. You think a person has ever interrupted more than one wedding? I don't know what's sadder: interrupting multiple weddings for the same person, or interrupting multiple weddings for different people.

True, though there was a wedding where a friend of mine was specifically asked not to attend because it was assumed he would have interrupted to confess that he was, indeed, in love with the bride.

There's a saying in my country.

"May the one who objects have a flock of pigeons **** on their head"

A real man doesn't wait for that line to interrupt the wedding.

I hope you are my friend that's getting married in a few days. That will make my trip half way across the country worthwhile.
