I'm thinking of moving closer to Everyone's favorite Skin-Yamika.

Anyone on here from San Antonio/Living currently in San Antonio/Knowledgable about San Antonio?

    Specifically...

    - What is the cool part of town to live in for someone young and single? If I move I don't want to be stuck out in the suburbs like I have been in Houston.
    - What would be comparable to the Midtown part of Houston?
    - Does San Antonio have much in the way of Urban living? Condos whatnot?

Any and all help would me much appreciated.

As a person who just graduated from school in San Antonio.....

The new area for everyone to be is up north (Stone Oak area). It's definitely the nicest part of town. It kinda has the stigma for where all the new money/yuppies go.

Personally, I went to school near downtown and loved it. An area like Midtown doesn't really exist in SA but the Broadway/Quarry area is pretty nice and has a little charm to it. Of course, downtown is always an option for going out at night.

As far as condos, I hear lots of lofts/modern living are going up soon in the downtown area. There really isn't anything out of the ordinary right now.

Why? Why would anyone move to SA on purpose?

    Gracias for the reply.

No, not Hispanic. I do like Latinas, though.

    Work opportunity.

Any other Hot San Antonio Neighborhood Opinions? HSANOs for short.

My daughter is an incoming freshman at UTSA, is that where you went? If so, how did you like it?

    LOL...

I was going to say anywhere way north of downtown. It's an easy trip north to the Guadalupe River, New Braunfels, San Marcos and Austin.

I graduated and now work at the University, and your daughter is certainly in for a treat. The next phase of the University Center is opening up in a couple of days. Harris County is the largest feeder county for the University, after Bexar. So there will be many people that she is "familar" with. Overall, college is what you make it, and I can tell you she will have many opportunities to learn and have a good, safe time.

AB- Did you happen to come to Orientation with her? I am very familar with that department.

From 1604 and 281 down to 1604 and Culebra, there is tremendous growth. That is about a 20 mile span. (Stone Oak/Deerfield/Rogers Ranch/Churchill/La Cantera/Bandera Point/ Alamo Ranch/Helotes)

The area around Downtown (Alamo Heights/Terrel Hills/Quarry) and Castle Hills (close to North Star Mall) are nice as well, but a little older.

SA has a lot of good things here, aside from this being Spurs and Dallas Cowboys Country ever damn day of the year!!!

AB, I apologize if my roommate was oogling your daughter last week if she was there for orientation. FWIW, he says the campus is absolutely amazing and would've loved to have gone there.

DB, I don't know much about where to live there, but I really do enjoy visiting, so make sure you have a guest room. What is the timeline on this?

    It's all good, JJ. I'm a Cowboys Fan. :p

But seriously...I've heard some other reference the Stone Oak, 1604/281 corridor. Is there an area of Houston that would compare to?

Like, in Houston, you definitely want to be inside the 610 loop because that's where it's all happening. Sugar Land is nice, especially if you're married and have kids, but if you're a single ready to mingle you end up having to drive into town.

Is that Stone Oak/1604 area more inner-loop Houston or more Sugar Land Houston?

Also, to the extent that it makes a difference, I'd be working in Boerne. But I know I don't want to live out in Boerne. I want to be inside S.A. city limits.

Thanks all for the continued input.

And, yes, I am the Truth with my double-tiered user name. Old school, baby. Old school.

BG, you are of course more than welcome to come visit any time.

The timeline could possibly be quite soon. You know there are hoops that have to be jumped through.

I'm putting the odds at 65/35 I'm in San Antonio within 6 weeks. If I'm not, that probably means I'm not going at all.

And, yes, I'd rather be going to Austin.
