Bringing unrelated politics into the discussion was inappropriate. And judging by your grammar, you should probably refrain from any political discussion period.

You ruined the thread, not hooroo. At least what he said made sense. Read about things before you mouth off them, because I am definitely offended that you compared Afghanistan and Iraq to Darfur. Take a course in facts before you do the "stupid American" bit.

That being said; its sad to not see Yao 100% to play for his country when they host the olympics.

now time to never read this thread again because of the bull**** flames of crap that will ensue.

Fran Blinbury is a hack journalist. He's the Andy Rooney of the Houston Chronicle - just regurgitating the same simple criticisms and bringing up the glory days. Also, he must be really lazy cause he doesn't write much either - though that's the only positive I can think of

My post was appropriate. It aimed directly at Yao, at Yao's comment from the article, this thread is based on. It's inappropriate to derail a thread like what you're doing.

How funny. The one who started this lame thread derailing game tried to blame other people for derailing the thread. Do you also blame other people for your hobby to derail threads?

Yao has been resting since he got injured. So for him, this summer is not the same as previous summers. He is not exhausted after a long NBA season. His main problem now is he might almost forgets how to play in real games. I think playing in the Olympics is a good chance for him to regain some touch. And that will do good to the Rockets. So I don't see the dilemma here.
Of course, there's the risk that he might get injured in these games. But that risk is always there unless he doesn't play real games anymore. If the CNT could not advance into the second round, there would be only five games ahead for Yao to play in Olympics. So the risk actually is no bigger than the risk if he played in the summer league.
BTW, don't forget, we actually have a player who is playing for his national team after a long exhaustion season--Luis Scola. Worring about him playing the Olympics makes more sense than worring about Yao.

I'm guessing YOU are an ignorant American. Africa's on the world map, too, and there's a reason for it being so poor and ravaged. It's because people like you couldn't care less.

My, my... are you trying to insinuate something about Yao and China right here?

I suggest you shut it with these type of comments.

Yao spoke nothing about Darfur, insinuated nothing about Darfur and inferred nothing about Darfur. God knows why the hell you bring up something as insensitive and emotional as these.

    Yao's quote:

[rquoter]"That's a tragedy," Yao said. "A lot of the people who were living there and all across China were so excited earlier this year about the Olympics. Now 2008 has brought this to us first. As the year passes, it is difficult to forget. We cannot forget. We cannot just celebrate games and the Olympics when we still have this suffering from the earthquake."[/rquoter]

There are many, many people who are specifically not celebrating the Olympics because of what is going on in Darfur. Yao is saying that it's hard to celebrate the Olympics given what's happening in China. There is an obvious connection there, and pointing it out should be fair game in this thread. Throwing around personal insults, on the other hand, should never be tolerated.

Yeah man ,i also hope that yao will have another one or two months to rest and recover to 100 percent before the season begins. However ,yao has no other option to excute than play the olypics for him nation. To be honest ,few guy in states will watch the olympics ,but chinese are more interested in olympics than we are.Especially the olympics is to be held in china, unfortuanately ,yao has to play that.I'll not watch the Olympics and i don't care whether our team will win the medal. The award for the world's champion is Obryne cup instead of the Olympic gold medal.

I really hope that yao should not get injuried in the olympics,i would rather to see the guys in teamUS get injuried .As no one in rockets team has been selected to the US Dream 7.provided ,deron williams got badly injuried in the olympics and would not be able to play through the whole season, then we can speculate that they would by no means beat us in the playoffs or even not able to enter the playoffs.I hope the bad injuries bite everyone in teamUS then the only them that may bring us some troubles in the upcoming season is just spurs.Bryant(laker) wasted,as well as kidd(mav) deron&boozer(jazz) and carmelo(nuggets) chris( hornets) ,not to mention phoenix and potland and clippers.Man,it'll be more ideal if dirk and manu also get injuried in the olympics. :D

I'm sure he's talking about his conditioning rather than his ability to play basketball guys...

Are you kidding? Yao doesn't have to play -- he WANTS to play. Representing your country in the Olympics that is being HOSTED by your country? How could he NOT be thrilled at the chance?

Gotta remember, Yao loves his Rockets, but not as much as he loves his homeland and the people there.

You should NEVER hope for an injury to anyone. I just hope Yao and Scola can remain as they are and hopefully are on the up for the new NBA season. :)

as a Rocket fan, with dual national identity, i so empathize with Yao.

the Olympics are a big deal and sitting on the fence is never pleasant. Yao breeches two cultures and will never please either totally. when thats your scenario yah just gotta satisfy your conscience.

proud to have the great big man a Houston Rocket. Go Yao!

the anti Chinese sentiment is a growing phenom. Yao may wish for sports uncomplicated by follitricks but this will never be ...
