wow, that was really insightful and chalk full of informative opinion
Dude gave no reason why he thinks ron ron wont work. Just wanted to state his side on the whole trade...Im so tired of these so called sports Writers that add neither substance nor any thought provoking insight but rather state their side of the fence…What is the purpose of doing that? who does that help? Are you a GM, a coach, player,ect..? well guess what; No one cares what you think!

If everyone (or I should say WHEN everyone) comes down from being so high about this trade, more people are going to feel reservations. I have a lot of doubts myself. What makes the deal work is we gave up so little.

You can blot Artest going into the stands 4 years ago out of your mind. He will not do that again. What has me concerned is the HUGE day-to-day headache Ron Ron is. The guy is a psychopath.

KD, would you care to explain why you believe this move is a "bear"? or did you just want to state that without providing the reason why?

I have to agree. It's a great trade because we gave up nothing. But the assumptions that it will undoubtedly work are naive and unfounded.

    ok, I read it...
and I stick to my OP.
his point is that Ron cant play the 4 full time???? where has anyone within the rox organization hinted at him being a full time 4? did kd forget about scola, landry, dorsey, hayes???? this article sucked. and Im being nice.

Ron ron cant rebound full time as a 4, so this is a bad move-KD

Only thing I got from that article is that I need to start a band named December Infraction.

So these are the points he makes, for the lazy:

    • Battier, contrary to popular opinion, is actually a far better defender and the Rockets would be better served keeping him in the starting lineup
    • Artest isn't the defender he once was. He'll be better suited matching up against stationary PFs rather than chasing around smalls on the perimeter.
    • Artest figures to make a bigger impact on the offensive end
    • Rebounding is a question mark, if he's to get a lot of minutes at PF.
    • He thinks the Rockets are title contenders with or without Ron Artest.
    • Makes a closing comment on the team's fortunes resting on Rick Adelman ... not sure where he's going with that.

ok...battier will still get his 33 mins per game. whats his point? that still leaves 35 mins for the 2/3 backup. would he rather head get some of those mins?
He may not be as great as he once was on D, but hes still one of the top 5-7 in the league. and playing on a club that is defensively oriented will recharge that motor and desire to play d. Sactown was a horrible defensive team, how wouldnt get tired of playing d and seeing your team give up 110?
isnt that what we need the most?
He wont, so it wont. at max he will play 10 mins at pf. unless landry doesnt resign
ok, this just makes us better. isnt that the point? to get better
yeah reading that was a waste of time

Everybody should just shut up and let Artest play before passing judgement, good or bad.

This deal is low risk high reward kind of deal.

If it works out, we can seriously look at a championship ring.

There is no guarantee that it will work but it's a low risk-high reward move.

It didn't cost the Rockets much. If if fails not too much of a loss. If it works out, we are serious title contenders for next few years.

How can anyone not go for this?

And yes, Artest will be on a day to day basis for all 82 games and playoffs. It will be entertaining at first but will become a nuisance later on.

I can deal with the nuisance as long as it results in some rings.

I'm just happy that a journalist actually took the time to explain their opinion instead of taking the Richard Justice road

It's not certain that Artest will be manning the power forward position, is it?

I can understand his concerns, and though I haven't really seen Artest play that often recently, I can believe the part about him not fighting through screens and really getting at the offensive player..

However, I think on a really good defensive team like the Rockets, hopefully he will step it up and be willing to play hard..cuz we do have a team of pretty hardworking (passionate?) players..Yao, Scola, Battier, Landry, Alston, Hayes, Head (sorta)

If Artest joins the Rockets, I think he'll have a bit more discipline.

Also, is this the best team that Artest has been on? I'm not sure, but yeah, building team chemistry and understanding each other and being able to play well together, that needs to happen, and then hopefully we'll start winning.

I agree, though..another low-risk, high-potential move. It's possible that it might not work, but it's also possible that we become an even better team.

C'mon Kelly - this is a perfect storm of random players to form a big three ~ Yao, McGrady, and Artest... this is like something created in a lab.

Adelman is going to lead the Rockets for a serious run at the championship and Artest may very well be the best player on the team.

A lot of Dwyer's argument is based on Artest's character: his off-the-court discipline and his motivation on the court. I think the contract-year factor and the fact that the Rockets could contend for a championship are perfect motivation for Artest. He's been talking about his career, how he wants to close out his prime phase: what was that interview where he mentioned how Jordan and Theus closed out their careers? He is focused this year. Or am I dreaming. . . .

My 'mood' seems fairly represented by KD. Insight? Heck, all is good with this deal. Kinda. Sorta. This season f'shure, but - what of the five year extension?

I hope I can pull for the man who represents the greatest Exclamation point for the season - c'mon Mr Artest, be all you can be as a Rocket.

It's the year of RA++++ for the Rox. I h-o-p-e.
