Gasol by a mile. Artest does not have nearly the trade value that Gasol had. Gasol had no attitude problems AND is a big man to boot. Gasol was actively sought after by lots of teams. Artest? Well, Phil Jackson and Adelman think they could handle him. Pretty much most other coaches thought otherwise. As for Camby, I'd say $10 worth of cap space has A LOT OF trade value. Usually teams GIVE picks in order to shed salary, not taking them.

Basically they traded junk for one of the top big men in the league, and regardless of how close Artest and Gasol are in talent, a talented big man like Gasol is always harder to find and impacts the game more than a bruising wing can, even given Artest's defense and offense.
Gasol is a talent, Artest is a talent. Gasol isn't an implosion risk, Artest is. In terms of which trade was the bigger steal? The Gasol trade.
