I hate the Rowdies a lot. They aren't funny, are obnoxious, and do act like jack asses. It's a lame attempt by a team to get people loud and crazy that doesn't work. You have one section in the corner of the side of the upper bowl acting stupid. Everyone else just looks at you like the short bus just dropped you off at the game.

It is not the actual individual Rowdies fault. It is the system. The Rowdies are told to be loud and try to get the crowd pumped up because they get free tickets. When they do it to a crowd that is not pumped up, they become annoying.

With that said, it is hard to get a good home crowd even with a good team with all the "suits" in the club level. The Red Rowdies are basically Les's way of trying to appease the "real" fans without pissing off the people who bring all the money into the TC.

    It doesn't work. At all.

I guarantee we go on a deep playoff run, the Rockets won't need the Rowdies. That place will be bumping. I doubt they come back this year with the addition of Ron anyways. Too many more season tickets to sell.

You are a hater.. and your post is annoying. The point is not only to "appease the real fans," but to make TC feel like home. Our home record was terrible until the rowdys came along.

Did I say anything immature? I thought I made a good point.

If they wanted to make the Rowdies effective, they would put them behind the opposing bench. No way they would give up those revenues.

You're right though. Our home record has been way better. The Rowdies cheered our team on to victory. The Rowdies are the sole reason the Rockets have a better home record. It has nothing to do with the fact that we have been continually improving the team over the last two years. It has been the fat guy in the sombrero with his face painted.

I guarantee they put a great team together that can win in the postseason, you will have a great crowd throughout the arena, not just a handful of noisy fans in a corner in an otherwise quiet arena.

well the rowdies did help the crowd become noisier if anything regardless of where they are in the arena and they do have pretty decent seats. the fact that the organization does it is amazing i dont know of any other club that does (but i could be wrong i dont follow other teams)

but bottom line is that the players themselves have commented how much the rowdies have brought to the atmosphere at the TC and how much they love the rowdies. So yea maybe because of the rowdies a few home games that could have gone either way went in the rockets favor because the rowdies were able to pump the players enough to put in that little bit more effort and energy on the court. If the players love them then the rowdies are doing something differently than the crowd before and more importantly they are doing something RIGHT

but mlwoo i agree with you if the team had won in the postseason recently then you would get a lot more fans at the arena without needing the rowdies, but that isnt the case at all here maybe in a few years if Tmac/Yao/Artest work to perfection the rowdies may not be needed but for right now they certainly are needed.

You sound like someone who got snubbed in the Rowdy tryouts. First of all, the Rowdies are in the lower bowl. Second of all, if it didn't work, they wouldn't have brought them back last season. But not only did it work, they actually received sponsorship.

And I'm not sure how this is Les's way of appeasing the real fans since he isn't giving these seats away. JVG/TMac bought the seats their first year and now they are being sponsored by a 3rd party.

    An intelligent response? NO WAY.

But seriously, I understand where you are coming from. I just don't think the players are going to come out and bash a team sponsored group of fans. They would have no reason to either.

It's the fans who pay for tickets around them. If the mood in the arena is not "pumped up", I don't think injecting artificial "pumpedupedness" into the arena through the Rowdies is good. It just annoys everyone around them.

I do not say I approve of how everyone in the club level acts. It think it's stupid to leave early and not watch the game or cheer. I just think the Rowdies are a product of trying to get a quick fix for a problem that can be fixed by having a good team or not allowing all club level seats to be bought by corporations.

    Good response, though.

I actually was in the original red Rowdies in the 05 playoffs when they had a competition before each home game and brought in 15 fans or so to stand at the top of the club level. Painted face and everything.

The whole thing seems forced and artificial.

H-town needs this kind of tradition of fan participation. Thats why colleges have such a huge home court advantage. Do some other citys need this? Of course they do. Would we need this if the lower bowl weren't so corporate? No we wouldn't, because the cult fans are very knowledgeable. The corporate people occupying the lower bowl are mostly from other cities so they dont care as much. But with the red rowdies hopefully some more will participate just so they can fit in.

Hey, yahoo has one from the Rookie photo shoot. Its only one of Dorsey and its not really the best pose, but worth a shot I guess? Here it is below.
