Yao should have learned by now that in the NBA, when a trade is made for a player, the only acceptable response is unbridled enthusiasm.
This applies for ANY player. It can be Lebron James or Chris Quinn. The response should be along the same lines. Especially with a guy with the mental stability of Artest, you simply can't afford to start off on the wrong foot.

Yao. Com'on, if you ruin this for me. Even if you are 7'6, I will still try to kick your butt standing on a ladder.

No, he said "Tracy doesn't have to play defense." Big difference.

Seriously. If Yao screws this up, I'm going to downgrade my fanship from fanatic to huge fan.

The honeymoon's over. It only took one day. I already wish this guy would shut up. Houston is showing their commitment to him by trading assets to obtain him and the rights to the contract he signed. And his ghetto/cultural rant is alarming.

True, but you can't totally absolve Yao either.

    Yao needs to:
    - Get out more.
    - Quit playing counterstrike on the computer all the damn time, under mommy and daddy's roof no less.
    - Get to know real people instead.
    - Learn at least just a little teeny tiny bit of street smarts.
    - Not believe eveything the media tries to portray about people (especially black athletes)
    - Stay away from Slimebury in the meantime.

Well, technically, it's his house. But still, he should buy another house for him and his wife.

I don't know but Artest spoke on the radio show saying they spoke to each other. So one of them called the other.

btw I think that quote by Yao saying " I hope he's not running into the stands punching people" sounds like he was just joking around, and Fran Blinebury, the great person that he is, twisted Yao's words and made it sound like he was being serious.

I don't know why people are blowing this out of proportion. I like what artest said on the radio show and how he will accept any role that is provided to him.

As much as I love Yao, I really believe he shouldnt had said those comments, especially since Ron has been on good behavior since the brawl anyways. But Im pretty sure the media edit the crap out of Yaos comments and left certain stuff out to make it look worst then it really was. As for Ron willing to come off the bench, the best players should start. Shane should come off the bench. I believe a rotation that would work great in everyones favor would be for artest to start, but also be the first one to sub out. That way, when shane comes in, tracy will still be in the game. And then when tracy goes out in the second quarter, artest will be ready to sub back in.

Reading too deep into it, thought Scola's non-response was still subtly suggestive
    basically saying-

This Artest guy, yeah he's freakin LOONEY TUNES we all know that! But we'll make it work :)

I think what Yao did was wrong , that not the way to welcome a new player , especially without talking to him and when you don't know him personally.

And I hope Less is ready to give him a long term commintment , I am sure he will agree to a 9-10 million a year extension for 4 years and thats a bargain imo for the type of player he is , especially since he liks Adelman so much and just wants to settle down at this point of his career.

all you all are treating Artest with kid gloves, like he's some valuable ming vase

    1) the facts of the matter is that Houston has a good thing going here, Artest or no Artest. if he comes here he has to come here looking to fit in with the team chemistry.

    2) he has to check his drama at the doors of Toyota Center.

Artest is ****ing nuts but I think he's the type of dude who'd at least like a straight up answer rather than someone being PC with him. Someone had to say these things. Yeah they're glad to have him but you cant just baby him and be afraid to set him off. This is not a man who is going to appreciate subtlety and he's not a man who's gonna respect weakness. If the entire team bends over backwards for him he's not going to respect em

SOMEONE had to be the hard ass. IMO for this situation Yao is better than anyone. For one thing Artest isn't going to be intimidated by Yao, so he's not going to feel the need to lash out... as for example if it was Tmac or Ben Wallace or someone calling him out. Artest can just take the comments at face value.... GLAD to have you, now keep it professional and let's see where this goes...

I really doubt this was a "mistake" by Yao. Dude knew exactly what he was saying... of course a roleplayer like scola aint gonna say **** about artest but Yao can. Artest by all accounts is a guy who works hard, once he sees Yao in practice he'll understand and respect that Yao isn't just talk, he walks the walk. Also from all reports Yao is a hospitable man... put Artest on the tab at Yao's, hook him up with some contacts in China... Artest and Yao will be able to see eye to eye.

Really this is a non issue... Artest might just have well been offended by Yao if he tried to be too friendly or pretended he didn't have doubts about him when Artest could see that he did... (you dont know me, you dont know my culture, dont front etc etc).
