    Rockets trading for Artest
    Posted: Wednesday July 30, 2008 05:50AM ET

In what had been a quiet offseason, the Rockets are about to make a lot of noise. In a stunning move designed to push them from solid playoff team toward legitimate NBA contender, the Rockets reached agreement Tuesday with the Sacramento Kings to acquire gifted but controversial forward Ron Artest, according to an NBA executive with knowledge of the deal. The Rockets will give up guard Bobby Jackson, a No. 1 draft pick next season and another player whom the individual with knowledge of the trade could not name. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey declined to comment. Rookie forward Donte Greene, whom the Rockets acquired in a series of draft-night trades, will be included in the trade and is considered a key to the deal for the Kings. But because Greene signed July 14, he cannot be traded until Aug. 14 and the deal cannot be finalized or discussed publicly by team officials until that date. The Rockets also are expected to acquire rookies Patrick Ewing Jr. and Sean Singletary in the deal to make the money match, but both have partially guaranteed contracts and are likely to be released. The Rockets also will send the Kings roughly $1 million.

I believe that's directly quoting from Jonathan Feigen's story.

Nope. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Kings sign em both back though.

Sean is the 42nd draft and is a PG. I wish we had space for him, but sadly don't.

we will talk about singletary one day like we do about azubiuke...

He's going to contribute to someones roster... I wish we would at least take him to training camp.

Patrick Ewing Sr. would be so mad if his son is cut by us. I bet there would be no more praise for the Rockets from him.

Why don't we just package them with Novak, Head, and Hayes?

I remember during the NBA Draft thinking to myself that both of those picks were terrible. Singletary was worthy of a pick, but much later than #42 overall. As for Ewing, Jr., he had no business getting drafted, let alone at #43 overall.

I'd much rather have Mike Harris than either of those two. And it's going to be tough enough for Harris to make the team as is.

I do agree that Morey should hold onto them until right before training camp (to avoid any partial guarantee of their salaries), just in case there are any more minor trades to be made. It never hurts to have additional assets--no matter how bad--as long as they are non-guaranteed.

Still, the Rockets would most likely cut them loose if they had realistic opportunities elsewhere. That's the kind of franchise that the Rockets are.

signing singletary is just like signing brooks all over again except a less acurate 3pt shot

    We should keep Ewing.

Athletic freak that could develop and cover for any potential loss we get from ditching Greene.

    Negative.

The guy can't do anything on a basketball court.

Go check out his college numbers if you don't believe me...

Singletary's got great heart and hustle, he's a good passer and has a pretty decent shot. I watched him play at UVa and he's definitely worth a look. Also it would get a lot of my buddies to follow the Rockets...he's got a mad cult following at UVa

Additional salary cap fodder that can be packaged within 72 hours of the August 14th effective deal for Artest, in the package we will send out for Iverson.

keep the rights to both but send them to europe..if that is possible to keep their rights. Ewing would be popular in Europe just because of his father..plus he can jump the roof off.
