    I'd be okay with the team trading Battier for a point guard that can provide the same things Battier gives us, good defense and 3-point shooting. Doesn't necessarily need to be a huge upgrade to Alston. I just think it's a waste to have Battier, Artest, Barry, and Mcgrady at the 2/3 spots, while only having Alston at the 1.

    I'd like to see the team make a move for Earl Watson (Battier+Head for Watson+Damien Wilkins?). Watson is an excellent defender and fairly accurate 3-point shooter and Wilkins can give us some quality backup minutes behind Mcgrady and Artest. The combo of Watson+Alston should be sufficient now that we have Artest.

    Stay pat and keep Battier. This team is solid and Rafer will keep this team running smoothly. Wow, It don't get better than this guys! :D

    I think this is the perfect opportunity for Steve Francis to step in and assume the backup role. The PG position is no longer overcrowded, and with Brooks, Francis doesn't have to be the full-time backup, either.

    I think it's the perfect situation.

    I think at this point the rotation will be this next season

    Starting 5
    Yao
    TMac
    Artest
    Scola
    Rafer

    Bench
    Barry
    Battier
    Landry (once he resigns)

    Because TMac and Barry can play some minutes at the 1, Artest can play some minutes at the 4, and Scola can play some minutes at the 5, these will be all the players we will need and it will provide for all kinds of lineup possibilities.

    and the players deep on the bench are pretty quality as well.

    Head
    Brooks
    Mutombo
    Francis
    Hayes

    Dorsey
    Novak

    thats a very strong end of the bench.

    Not as loaded? I would have to say we are equal, if not more loaded than the Celtics. We do not need a scoring pg.

    Yao 22ppg - KG 18.8ppg
    Scola 10.3ppg - Perkins 6.9ppg
    Artest 20.5ppg - Pierce 19.6ppg
    T-Mac 21.6ppg - Allen 17.4ppg
    Alston 13.1ppg - Rondo 10.6ppg

    Granted the numbers may slightly drop with the addition of Artest, but I only see it affecting Alston and Artest . Yao and Mcgrady will still get there points and I still see Scola averaging at least his 10 from last year.

    Let's hope this motivates SF even more and he can at the very least become Alston's back up. After reading these posts I still stand firm on keeping Battier. Alston will do just fine in our offense now that he will not be asked to do much scoring.

    Rafer Alston is a pure shooter, somewhat a chucker, I'd rather have a T.J Ford a pass-first PG who makes plays, like said and done it's best for the Houston Rockets to be successful.

    If we could make a minor trade with Miami for Mario Chalmers I'd be happy. Perhaps trade Brooks and Mike Harris for Chalmers...

    Chalmers is a lock-down defender and a great catch & shoot guy.

    Chalmers is a chucker and a glorified non-streetball version of Rafer Alston, the only difference is he might play a bit better defense and instead of doing floaters he would do finger-rolls. Rockets need a floor General, and nobody on the rockets team is capable of running the offense and making plays.

    I'd rather get Jason Williams as a backup in a s&t. I like Chalmers, but I don't know if he would help as much this season as having a sure hand.

    What's your definition of chucker - someone who vomits often?

    Here's the college numbers for Chalmers:
    51.6(fg) 46.8(3pt-fg)

    Rockets don't need another shooter, Rockets need a PG who can run an offense and make plays, and pass-first, that's not Chalmers.

    I would only trade Battier for following players

    Billups
    Jason Terry
    Hinrich (get somebody at 2/3 in return)

    A possible scenario is 3-way trade. Lakers is desperate to get Battier, and they are willing to give up Odom. So
    Odom -> third tea
    Battier + fillers -> Lakers
    PG -> rockets

    Pistons are probably not interested in trading Billups unless they get T-Mac in return, Jason Terry, I don't see leaving the Rockets, and Hinrich is just like Alston but a better shooter and defender.

    Good analysis. Since we are homers and tend to over-estimate our own players, I would say Battier and Hinrich is fair deal. I would say Baitter + head/Brooks/Hayes/Francis for Hinrich + a sevicable SF/SG from CHI.

    Even as a rocket fan and living Chicago, I'm not interested in having Hinrich as a Rocket, He's not a pass-first PG, he's a shooter with good defense, but Rafer's D is fine and his ability to be a floor general is good, I'm just not thrilled with his decision making of when to shoot or pass.

    I agree with you. However, I think we already have that in Rafer. We also have a number of play makers in Barry & Tmac. I want a BACKUP pg who can bury the rock and play D. Plus, Chalmers must have some floor-general skills as he was the primary point guard for the National Champions. Brooks has not convinced me that he can shoot the ball and play D. If Francis comes back healthy and in shape - great. I'm not sure about Jarvis Crittenton, but he does at least have a year of NBA experience above Chalmers - I'll give you that...

    I don't think we gonna make any major move for pg untill Morey get a chance to see how Francis works out this year. If Steve can be 80% of what he used to be, then we are set for the pg position. If not, I see them to make a move before the trading deadline to get a back up with Steve's expiring contract.

    I do see them using Head and Novak or maybe even Hayes to get a back up C before season starts.
