I don't want to hear any more of this "boo Hakeem" garbage. Yes, he was quirky and nuts enough to think he deserved billions of dollars and the ball down low this season. I might point out, however, that we owe quite a bit to his quirks. Ask yourself this; what marquis center in their right mind would have stayed on the Houston Rockets in the late 1980's? The boy is CR - A - ZY. Cheap white tennis shoes, hell-hole weather, public access TV appearences, "etablishing de post", Bill Heard's, Denny's, being treated like the Mesiah.... these are the things that made Dream happy. The Rockets were playing terrrrible basketball, and Dream was, for the most part, fine. Cheer him... a lot... you damned ingrates.

Maybe you should tell Dream the first three words of this thread.

I don't remember fans booing Hakeem during his illustrious career with the Rockets. I don't remember Rudy, CD, or Les Alexander calling out Dream for disloyalty.

I remember Hakeem b****ing about not getting enough touches, and b****ing about the offense needing to go through the post (namely himself). I remember Hakeem asking Dan Fegan (that no good piece of !@#$) to be his agent and try to hold the Rockets over the fire. I remember Hakeem asking for a trade or a ludicrous contract. I remember Hakeem taking back his word that he was ready to retire, so the Rockets starting gearing up for the post-Dream years, then Dream acting like a small timid child when the Rockets tried to move on, and build with Hakeem still with us.

So to tell the fans that were hurt when Hakeem left to so-called greener pastures to chase something he'll never have again and then starting running his mouth about how the Rockets were disloyal, and that the strategy of the Rockets' brass incompetent. Thats a bunch of bullsh!t. And before the so-called Hakeem-defenders come in to falme me for speaking my mind, what Hakeem did was wrong he burned the bridge, hell Rudy never said one bad thing about Dream, all Hakeem has ever been shown in loyalty, this city and her fans have rolled out the red carpet for this icon, and did he appreciate that? Whats done is done.

Do I still love Dream for the great memories and championships and edge-of-my-seat games that almost gave me a heart attack, then my answer is yes. Do I still love the Dream that wears the Toronto Raptors jersey and verbally-trashed the Rockets organization, no. But tomorrow night when he is announced I'll sit quietly I'll neither cheer, nor will I boo, I'll cheer Hakeem "the Dream" Olajuwon when he raises his retired #34 to the rafters of the new arena.

I will either Boo him tomorrow night, or remain silent. I will not cheer for him while he's playing against us.

Are you a Rockets fan or are you a Hakeem fan? They're not the same thing anymore, ya know.

You guys are collectively dumber than bowl of goldfish. Not cheering for Dream. Unbelievable. I'm glad he's playing lots of minutes and getting paid too much money. I'm glad he's getting more respect than he deserves in Toronto. They're the idiots who signed his decrepit ass for 17 mil. Long live Dream. Down with the goldfish.

    Shame. Shame on you all.

    Fro,

Do you even know what the hell you're talking about?

When the hell was Dream disrespected in Houston? He is respected as much if not more in the city of Houston than he is in Toronto. They respect him for his reputation. we respect him for what he gave to us, but we also loathe the whining in the public eye, so don't say shame on me or any of the other posters, look at both sides of the story before passing judgement.

So true. Hakeem, or Akeem was the reason I became a Rockets fan. but he has moved on and so have I. I am still here, but dream is not. Oh well it happens, but he is now our competition. we owe it to him to cheer against him. DO you think he will be cheering for us???

When has Hakeem ever said he does not appreciate the city or the fans? Where did you give this information from? The issue is between Rudy, CD, and Olajuwon, and we have no idea what really happened. It had nothing to do with the fans or the city. As far as I know Hakeem still loves the city and all of its fans who supported him for so long. I disagree with the amount of money Hakeem was asking for, and I was upset when he made those comments about the Rockets organization. But I can't blame him for wanting to go somewhere else to have a chance to win another championship.

I wonder if 5 years from now, we will still be reading threads about who betrayed who in the never-ending saga of Hakeem and Rockets management.

I don't mind TheFreak talking about this because I like him, and ZRB, you just sorta learn to tune him out after a while, but I'll be damned if other people start this .

Treeman said it best. It is over...Hakeem is not a Rocket anymore, he is a Raptor. Just let it go, for the love of God please.

As many people here know, I was known for "bashing" Hakeem because of his decision. Well for the most part, I have moved on & I believe (even though I am speaking for him) TheFreak has moved on. He only talks about it when provoked.

If both him and me have put this behind us, why can't everyone else that are on the pro-Hakeem AND pro-Rockets mgmt side put it behind them, too??

Good god Manny, why does it bother you so much if people want to talk about it?

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CLICK ON EVERY THREAD! IF YOU DON'T LIKE A TOPIC, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BOTHER RESPONDING! WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT ANYTHING WE PLEASE ON THIS BBS!!

Anyway, I think the franchise's greatest player making his first return to the city where he played for 20 years warrants a few new threads.

question for the fans that are attending tonights game...do you really want other players from around the league, that might consider playing for houston, see how we treat the greatest bball player to ever wear a rockets uni by booing him? it's bad enough that they see we dont have alot of fans in the stands on most nights but do we really need this?

on a side note, i will be at home in the privacy of my room booing the tv screen when they announce hakeem in the lineup...but if i was at the game i would cheer...

As betrayed as I feel Red does bring up a good point. If we ever want to bring in a premiere FA ever again we have to make the town look good. Besides if the fans in Houston cheer Hakeem and make him feel welcome perhaps he will comeback if the Peter Vescey rumor is true. There is nothing I would be happier about then to see Hakeem in a Rockets Jersey for one last time.

People get angry when they are hurt. For any ROckets fan nothing could hurt more then Dream turning his back on us but please turn the other cheek and cheer for the MAN! Boy I really wish I lived in Houston. I used to HATE THE ROCKETS AND ESPECIALLY DREAM as a child before CLYDE DREXLER came along sorry im getting carried away anyways I hope people will cheer for him.

Look, I come from a family filled with stubborn and irrational people. Out of the large number of aunts and uncles that I have, a handful of them don’t speak to each other because they went into business together and eventually crossed one another, or they had some argument about something dealing with money, or sleeping with the same girl….or something! Now, they’re dying off and they’re going to their respective graves not loving their siblings. I hate it, and I like to think that my family’s current generation is moving far away from that mode of thought because blood is thicker than water.

    Blood is thicker than water. Let those words run true to your souls because, actually, only one thing is thicker than blood;

TWO FREAKING CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND 34 POINTS, 12 REBOUNDS, AND FOUR BLOCKED SHOTS PER GAME. THAT’S ACTUALLY A LOT THICKER AND A LOT MORE IMPORTANT TO ME THAN ANY MEMBER OF MY FAMILY, OR THEIR STINKING PROBLEMS. DID MY MOM OR MY BROTHERS GET ME 14 50/50 T-SHIRTS WITH RED AND YELLOW ROCKETS PRINT SPLATTERED ALL OVER THEM SAYING STUPID CRAP LIKE “the twostone rockets” FOR ONLY FIVE BUCKS A PIECE ????? HAKEEM SURE DID!!! SO IF I CAN STILL LOOK MY JERK RELATIVES IN THE FACE I CAN SURE AS HELL STILL CHEER FOR HAKEEM THE F&%KING DREAM OLAJUWON!!!!!!!

    GOLDFISH!!!!
