I'm looking for a good movie making software. I had an HP computer that was from 2000 and only had like 1gb of ram and it was very slow. I tried using programs like Video Edit Magic and the Ulead programs and it was pretty user friendly but my PC couldn't take the large video files. Lagged the entire time. So I went out and purchased a new PC that has 4gb of ram and the processor is decent and I'd like to try some amatuer highlight videos from when the Texans start playing and so on. The PC came with Windows Movie Maker but from what I hear, its rather generic. Nothing special as far as video editing.

Are there any better programs out there that I can get free of charge?

Windows Movie Maker is generic, but if you're looking for user-friendly, it totally fits the bil. I used it for the first time a couple years ago and got it up and running in no time, then I banged out a highlight video in a couple days. Besides, movie maker has most of the basic effects that you'd want for a highlight vid. The only downsides that I recall are the fact that adding titles and text is kind of limited, and the files have to come out as wmv's. Still it's a pretty good free program.

Whats the best exported video format? Avi? I have a nice program called Xilisoft DVD ripper that can extract video and change the format to pretty much anything. That could probably come in good here.

If you need to convert wmv to another format and have an ATI video card, check your Catalyst Control Center to see if you can use the AVIVO video converter. It's something like 5-10 times faster than converting with the fastest quad core CPU. Nvidia might have something similar, but I don't know.

I would say iMovie but you're on PC... In that case Sony Vegas is a really good program and it's relatively easy to use.

SURE it's for the TEXANS' highlights... SURE, IT IS... ;)

uLead movie factory or FreeDV as stated in [thread=119225]this here thread[/thread].

Be forewarned of copyright infringement, though. They took down three of my Mario Williams' highlight reels in YouTurd 'cuz the NoFunLeague said it was copyrighted. :(
