Imagine Artest and "Ray Lewis with a basketball" Dorsey on the court at the same time.

Considering the players with which we won 22 in a row, I predict that our record this year will be 90 wins, -8 losses.

i agree w/ all those points, specially w/ ron finally bein on a contending team. im 100% positive that when youre on a contending team youre gonna play your ass off, specially when your in a contract year and playin for an old coach you liked. i also think he understand wat mac n yao are capable of and thats good cuz more pple need to be aware of somethin so SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think typing classes start in 9th grade at most high schools.

i'm not sure i agree. its possible they have talked about an extension, but I think the rockets really value the fact that this season will be a test case for Artest as a piece of a "big three", without having to commit to that model before they see how its going to work. In my opinion it would be somewhat short-sighted of the rockets to extend artest without knowing how things are going to work.

not to mention that if they extend him they lose part of his value - he's a relatively large expiring contract! this could make him doubly desirable if his time in Houston proves to be a failure. you can trade him to a contender as that "final piece to the puzzle" and on top of that you can sell that team cap space. You should get a good haul back in that situation. if you extend him, unless its at a very reasonable rate, you lose a big chunk of his open market value.

we'll see how the rockets play it, but imho the smart money is on letting Ron play out this year before acting on his contract status and future.

With the current deal, Artest is definitely better than what we all think.

I know what you mean about not "liking" this idea... BUT we all know that its gonna happen. Like it or not this guy is the best decision maker/distributor on the team. Come to the end of the quarter, half, game... the ball is going to be in his hands. I must admit though I do like it a WHOLE lot better now with the addition of Artest.

Knight's concerns would be valid but they are unwarranted. I don't remember where (probably the 50+page thread) but I read that the Rockets have given Artest NO guarantees of an extension. And the best part? Artest is perfectly fine with that because, not his exact words but close, playing with Tracy and Yao trumps everything! :D

I am ecstatic!!! If this deal falls through though... [IMG]

Good post. I'd like to add that we got Artest and kept Battier. Meaning, worst case scenario, if Artest implodes we still have our previous core together.

Ron is the superstar who earns the lowest salary, say, any other superstar earns more than he does.Of course, rosters in rookie contract are exceptions.

Any coach having artest at hand should feel lucky.Besides,in spiter of some discriminations on ron,I think artest is a frank person. He is a good guy,not a trouble maker. As that he is our brother now,we may as well pay more attention to his performance on court than that off court.

Yep, this is what I was getting at in the piece about acquisition cost/salary. when we were all fighting on this board about whether we wanted artest, many people (including myself) said that we wouldn't want him at the cost of a big part of our core, say battier or scola + BJ's expiring. That we were able to get him without making such a sacrifice makes it a home run.

now, they just have to take care of the trivial matter of winning a whole lot ;)

This would be my team to close out games:

    Barry (PG)
    McGrady (SG/PG)
    Artest (SF)
    Scola (PF)
    Yao (C)

With Battier being the first player off the bench, Artest can basically play HARD on defense without worrying about foul trouble.
And talk about spreading the court. We have 3 LEGIT perimeter players, a dependable mid range shooter and them MOST OFFENSIVE DOMINANT Center in the game. If we really wanted to stretch it even further, we'd put Battier at SF and Artest at PF.
    It's OVER!!!
