In my opinion you have to keep Battier here. Most on the board would have thought that if you wanted Ron iin Houston you would have had to give up Battier in the first place. Now for Morey to get the job done and still keep Battier proves how good the guy is. Defensively this team is going to be huge

Battier isn't going to the Rockets an upgrade at PG on his own. Trading more future draft picks to do so and the Rockets are re-living their recent past.

I've heard the view that PGs are drafted not traded a couple of times. Once by CD and another this past season by some other GM/coach I can't recall.

Maybe Battier for Outlaw + Koponen + filler?

For now Outlaw can be a stud 3/4 backup. IMO he's on his way to becoming a 15-20ppg player in this league. Koponen replaces Greene as the team's long term project.

We should trade Battier for an upgrade pg!

Actually, I believe Morey is working on this. Otherwise, we wouldn't need Artest.

With this much fire power, we can afford to let Alston run the show as long as he doesn't shoot. If he becomes too much of a liability, we can always bring in Barry or Francis.

    Alston/Francis/Barry
    Tmac/Battier/Barry/Francis
    Artest/Battier
    Scola/Landry/Artest/Hayes
    Yao/Deke/Dorsey/Hayes

I don't think Portland want to give up Outlaw in a Battier trade.

They already refused the Rush/Outlaw for Battier deal - perhaps they felt that was too significant? (they offered Webster/Rush)

Koponen can shoot and is big - be great to have that as a backup.

Personally I thought (in limited observances) Brooks looked great distributing in summer league - and we saw at the tail end of last season (and through his college career) that he's a scorer.
I haven't given up on him just yet (unless he went to Sacto, in which case he sux!) - needs to work on his defence though.

I say yes to that. Having a better PG can help but Tracy will continue to pass and move the ball around. Herrera, how is Ron's catch and shoot ability like by the way?

Mario Chalmers did great in summer league, can shoot the three with consistancy, and doesn't think he needs to shoot every other time he gets the ball. Find a package with Miami that would include him and some other players.

Ron can catch and shoot, but doesn't seem to like to do it much... his favorite move seems to be the face-up dribble penetration game-- preferably against guys significantly smaller and weaker than himself (the best Artest stopper I saw in recent years has been Chuck Hayes, who bother Ron because Ron can't bully him-- Battier, on the other hand, Artest can handle with sheer muscle).

Sign Deke and Horry (for ring karma), and we are done. Boston won with Rondo, Rafer is better than Rondo.

I think we should keep Battier. With another scorer, Battier is even more useful, and Alston will shoot less. When Alston's field goals go down, his effectiveness goes up!

Keep Battier, T-Mac, Barry, Brooks and hopefully Francis can play PG.

Just look at Rondo and Fisher in the finals. we are fine with Alston.

If the right PG comes along you make the deal, if not you don't, either way we can't lose.

This trade certainly makes us attractive to PGs that want to win, and a Chinese endorsement deal is appealing as well.

I agree AI is not the way to go, Rafer is great at getting the offense started, often I see him get the ball into Yao before the shotclock hits 20, and he can handle a press as good as anyone.

He is more than up to the task, and he is a steady hand at the tiller when it comes to starting the offense. Brooks and Barry cand handle the rest.

Battier will defend Ginobili of the bench and will split time with Artest to defend kobe. With Artest and Battier, you can send 2 elite defensive players to wear down the opposing teams best 2 guard. I didn't even mention the help defense those two players provide.

That's what I thought but wasn't too sure about it. If he plays with discipline we will become a contender.

The Rockets will not trade Battier. In case you've forgotten, Battier, Yao and Tmac was part of the pieces when Morey was in his first year as GM.
