I'm not obese. I do some of this to defend my friends who are bigger than me because even being somewhat overweight stresses me, knowing how society feels about it and having a boyfriend who's fairly thin and shorter than me. He doesn't mind much, but I still feel society's pressure to shrink yourself and not be too "big" as a woman. Anyway, there's got to be even more stress for people with more weight problems, and we need to be positive about the good stuff (healthy habits) without being negative about the bad stuff. It's human nature: people are sensitive, people can be depressed, people give up and just eat anyway. Not to mention that everyone loves food. Fat, skinny, and in between (except for a few anorexic-types out there). All y'all perfect specimens of manhood are in these threads talking up Five Guys, Whataburger, Bennigan's, Friday's, Cheddar's, etc. Some of you may not be fat but you would have every right to be, and the same habits that make other people fat. (and for those of you who are only 20 or so, wait another ten years and see what it does) Why aren't we all posting about our workouts instead? Too busy with food, video games, movies, and the latest silly video on youtube. Bad habits are for all of us, these days.
I have not read any responses in this thread because I'm sure I could predict them. Let me just say for the record that a bunch of basketball nerds (yes, you are all a bunch of nerds) sitting around talking about fat chicks and discussing why Jessica Alba isn't hot enough for them (that has happened on here) MUCH funnier than a lame video game that encourages the player to feed a princess cake to make her fat.
There are workout threads here all the time...you don't see them more often because there's not really much to say after it's been said. "I'm continuing to lead my healthy lifestyle!" doesn't provide as much opportunity for conversation as "Have you tried this new (blank) or seen this new (blank)"
Boo-hoo! I'm offended 'cuz I'm overweight and don't know how to control my eating habits and don't know when to get up to do some exercise... Booo... hoo...! Now someone made a video game where they offend me... waaaa waaa waaa!!!! Waaa! " STFU. Fixed.
IMO, this game should serve as impetus for larger women to hit the gym and exercise. Since, for the most part, weight issues are entirely resolvable, there should be less "lowering the bar", as it were, through protesting and getting offended. Rather, those large feminist gamers should try to raise the bar by living healthier lifestyles rather than trying to make their obesity somehow "the norm", while everyone else has to tiptoe around the issue rather than accept that it's an unhealthy state. Kudos to you Fat Princess, kudos. But after you've scarfed down that eighth cheesesteak, run around the forest for the sake of exercise, rather than to find dessert.
Instead of seeing "let's lock up the fat girl and make her more fat!", I'd rather see "let's let the girl run around the forest and do martial arts and strength training". (especially with an interactive DDR-like pad so the game player is actually getting off his or her butt and playing for real.... we're all hypocrites if we sit on our soft rears playing games while complaining about people not exercising) Positive reinforcement is better than negative reinforcement and gets better results. The above is more positive. Negative reinforcement, like "oh my gosh I don't want to be a Fat Princess", may work in the short term but also leads to depression and anxiety, especially when the going gets tough. Women have a particular sensitivity to those things and I truly don't think you guys can imagine how it feels to react to these things as a woman. Just like we don't understand why y'all are insensitive and don't cry much.
Hey, for the record, I am fat....and it is my own danged fault, no one elses. And, I am not offended by video games that make fun of fat people..... If I cared so much, I would watch what I eat and excercise more, but then my post count would suffer, and lord knows, I don't want that to happen. And, IMHO, everyone should be made fun of except the handicapped.....we all should learn to laugh at ourselves, the world would be a much better place. DD
What a bunch of sexist garbage. The game is not "laughing at ourselves." The biggest whiners on planet earth are middle aged white guys who see reverse discrimination around every corner, yet have zero sympathy for anybody else. In this very thread we have people who are serial complainers because women don't understand them, yet they think it's [Hilarious] that feminists are upset about this game. Talk about being tone deaf. I think it's [Hilarious] when old fratboys die alone and unloved because they never grew up.
Let's not get offended by people who are offended by things that may or not be offensive. They can't help it, some people just don't metabolize material that may or may not be offensive as well as other people who are more thick skinned. So let's not get offended by people who get offended by things that they shouldn't be offended against because they can't help it and it's discriminatory to criticize anyone who can't help being offended because they can't metabolize information as well. And it enforces stereotypes. and the iraq, such as....
...so, uh, don't offend the offended by being offensive to the offended and not offending the offensive offenders?
Do any of you have a Wii Fit? I've been told by a friend that when you first step on the pad, it adjusts the size of your "icon" or whatever based on your weight. It expands if you're fat. Here's an article about it: http://dietdiaries.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!C41B2459EB7037F0!556.entry My Wii Fit Porked Out my Mii! One of the best things about creating a fictional image is that it can be whatever the imagination desires. Want a vampish mysterious woman? Or a muscle-bound trainer? A tiny feminine character? The sky's the limit. Nintendo's Mii characters are fun to create for just this reason. Skinny or round, bald or spiked hair, sun glasses or wide-open eyes - a few clicks can create a wide variety of fun characters. My Mii is a pretty woman with beautiful eyes, a sweet smile, and a very thin body. Well, she was until I signed in with my new Wii Fit. With a few short questions and an assessment of my weight, I watched as my petite little Mii was porked out into a plump little Mii with a round little face. Now that's just cruel. She's still a happy little Mii and jogs around the virtual island, trips over the step aerobics board, and falls over trying the yoga. She isn't very good at following the hula hoops and even worse at the tightrope walking, but she absolutely loves the little running paths - even if she is a little chubster now. But I think it's worked. I'm putting in my time hoping to get my Mii back to her pretty little svelte body. I just hope she doesn't feel too self-conscious now. It is totally my fault that she now has a fat Mii looking back at her in the mirror! The Wii Fit also likes to tell people they are fat: http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=148043&in_page_id=34
