people said the same about rasheed... i think its a mix of being in the right situation and maturity. he'll be a huge addition to the team. bjax was a backup PG...he could never start for us.
This means a player can obtain "Bird rights" by playing under three one-year contracts, a single contract of at least three years, or any combination thereof. It also means that when a player is traded, his Bird rights are traded with him, and his new team can use the Bird exception to re-sign him. Bird-exception contracts can be up to six years in length. Wikipedia is your friend, happy now?
Exactly...all those people worried about Ron Artest imploding need to remember that he thrived under Adelman in Sacramento in 2006-2007. This is the 3rd guy that the Rockets needed. Unlike Shane Battier, who's a good team defender, Artest is a real glue guy. Imagine being Kobe, Lebron, or Paul Pierce and realizing that you have to go up against this defensive monster for a 7 game series. Not something they will be looking forward too. He can also put up 20 pts a night if need be as well. They got him for virtually nothing! Overall, the Houston Rockets have now become an elite team. Artest will love the H. www.myspace.com/ronartest
What intrigues me is how this deal works for both sides. The Rockets get a legitimate third scorer for players who probably won't contribute this year, and the Kings get an expiring contract, a future first, and a promising young player. Looking at the Kings board, though, it seems like they're shocked they got so much for Artest. Of course, they're also excited about Bobby Jackson coming back, so who knows what they're thinking.
Is it possible to receive something more from the Kings? Quincy Douby? Shelden Williams? Francisco García?...
Not giving up Scola is huge but I don't see why the Kings would want him. He's too old to build around. I am salivating when thinking of the defensive unit the Rockets can put on the floor with Hayes, Artest, and Battier. Dorsey may be a nice defensive piece as well. I think this move makes resigning Deke more important, and Landry less so. I'm not so sure Battier's minutes will take much of a hit. I think Artest's minutes will be split between both Battier and Tmac. Do you really think Battier will play a significantly smaller role?
LOL sooo it takes Ron Artest to finally make you post huh? 2 Rockets games in Portland here I come!!!!!!!!!
Ok, i love this trade, but can someone explain how we are going to get T-Mac his 36 minutes, and artest his 34-36 minutes, while have Shane Battier, a capable starter for many teams in this league?
Yep... even if Artest doesn't play a single minute, you still got the core of the 55 win team from last season-- and it's not like the Rockets don't have any youth, either after trading Greene and the pick. There are still Dorsey, Brooks, hopefully Landry, Memphis' second rounder next sesaon. BTW, the Artest move makes the Batum for Green+Dorsey+Memphis 2nd rounder move look that much more important. You get rid of 2 first rounders and still don't screw yourselves in the youth department.
yea but now we are very near luxury tax and we might not wanna give landry money because 1 dollar = 2 dollar when ur over the tax mark
