Alston, Battier, Jackson, 09 1st for Allen Iverson
    Renaldo Balkman for Houston's TE?

Just dreaming up scenarios, though I still am skeptical of this "rumor".

He does but it's worth the risk.
He will pass to Yao and score,he is also an underrated defender despite his lack of size. Tracy can also pass more and not worry about scoring so much,in this way both AI and Yao can get involved. The loss of defense can be compensated if McGrady is willing to take up a bigger role. I think he will be willing to do so with the scoring load being taken off his shoulders. Our role players are better for chemistry but they have limitations. We do need role players but a potential star can not be obtained easily. AI has been to the NBA Finals and hasn't been disruptive unlike Ron Artest for a long time. Rick is also a flexible guy,he can mold his offense around the strengths of his players.

The Rockets have got to stop playing it safe, otherwise they won't be able to go deep in the playoffs. Iverson has a huge expiring contract if things don't work out. I'm very skeptical about the whole thing anyway.

What is the big f'n deal for starting a new thread. never knew it was being discussed in those other monster threads. I don't have the inclination to check 20 pages worth of posts. There is enough interest in this one trade alone to merit this thread.

Our best point guard is not starter material. McGrady is the best passer on the team,he can take up a bigger role if AI plays as a 2 guard. Not taking risks we never get us anywhere. AI's expiring contract will keep the 2010 plan intact.

Nor do I. Thanks for making this thread. Regardless if the rumor is bs or not. Besides, it's been a slow offseason. At least this gives us something to get excited about.

I agree that it is thread-worthy.

The problem is that the more it is brought to the forefront, the more of a disappointment it will be for those that support the idea when it turns out to be nothing more than hype.

this trade would be a no brainer. you do it in a heartbeat. with our current lineup we cannot win an NBA championship....With iverson, at least we would have the foundation to win....would probably need to add another defensive player to replace battier, but we could worry about that later....

Also, perhaps iverson could come off the bench like ginobli? That way we would always have either iverson or mcgrady on the floor, while minimizing TMACs minutes until the playoffs come?

iverson shot .345 from downtown last year, but i think his percentage would go up playing in houston. he would certainly get more open 3 point shots and you would have to think that he would do better than rafer, hitting it.

battier is replaceable, we can worry about him later.

Then again, the most succesful franchise of the past decade was also one of the most conservative.

I'd say the Rockets problem is that they took too many risks over the past 10+ years. I don't think taking more risks is necessarily the way to fix things.

Maybe, we just need to play it smart for several years while paying the price for past risks.

You wanna see chaos? Make Iverson a bench player, sit back and enjoy.

I wouldn't at all like such a panic move. Even without Yao, this team won a ton of games and made it a competitive playoff series. If Yao is healthy, and with the incremental boost of Barry instead of Head, especially if a trade deadline player can be added with our expirings, this team can be a title contender without the need for such a gamble.

With that being said, I also have to be upfront that I'm not a big AI fan, either on or off the court, whereas it is easy to cheer on a team that has team-first solid guys like Battier on it.

The most successful franchise got lucky with the #1 pick and drafted one of the best big men this decade. Then they got lucky and nabbed two guys in the 2nd round to be key players. Not every team can do that. We got the "get lucky with the #1 pick" part. We can't just expect Landry to turn into Ginobli or Brooks to turn into Parker.

I wonder if this thread will have 40 pages of hype filled anticipation like the "Smith for Odom" thread on the Lakers board?

I think the rumor is hogwash, only because I don't see why the Nuggets would do it. They aren't getting the better players and they aren't clearing cap room. So what is the purpose. Clearly AI is worth Battier and Rafer, especially when his 21M comes off the books next season if it doesn't work out.

    check page 2.

    anyways....

this trade (which seems very unlikely) would definitely be a no-brainer... with tmac and yao, we're looking at a MAXIMUM 3 year window left - and that's being generous. you throw a hungry offensive veteran who's been to the finals before playing the 1 (and 2) and this team is a legit contender today. losing battier clearly hurts, but we need scoring in the worst way and at this point you've got to sacrifice some D if that's what it takes.
