Down to earth, hard-worker, not a bling-bling type of NBA player, unselfish, leader, fan friendly, no ego. Expect greatness from him in the upcoming season. http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/121721372983840.xml&coll=7 (4 pages) Video: http://videos.oregonlive.com/oregonian/2008/07/brandon_roy.html 10 Roy articles here: http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2008/07/rip_city_revival.html
People bring up Gay but this is the guy the Rockets really wanted (so did his agent apparently). Too bad it didn't work out.
Huh Hem. Favorite player whose not a Rocket I hope you mean!! Otherwise change your screen name to B-Roy.
The coverage the Blazers are getting this summer by the Oregonian is quite amazing. It started in summer league and continues marching on. I know they are the only pro team in the area, but Portland is a very small market. Good for them and we can only wish the Chronicle put out half as much material on the Rockets and their players. What got me hooked on Roy initially was a "Thank You Brandon Roy" YouTube of his UW highlights put out a couple of years ago. That got me to thinking he might end up being a special player in the NBA. The recent series on Roy was a great read and listen. His comments on Jerryd Bayless were especially interesting. This and what I've learned about Bayless' past lead me to believe he will supplant Steve Blake in the backcourt (by getting more minutes) earlier than I first thought. Bayless is the perfect compliment to Roy and is exactly the kind of player Roy wants to tandem with. One thing I'm glad they mentioned again was Roy (as a rookie) shutting up a Zach Randolph halftime rant in the lockerroom two years ago. He's a born leader that other players naturally gravitate towards. I don't regret Rudy Gay that much but it burns me to this day the Blazers made the trade to snag Roy in front of us. He would have been the leader, 3rd scorer, crunch time clutch player and glue guy this team needed so much. My son is a huge Blazers fan right now. It started with Roy and now he can't wait to see Oden and Bayless.
I hope Oden doesnt turn out to be the next Shaq or something. The Blazers are a playoff contender even without him. And yeah brandon roy is the real deal. Watch out for these guys possibly to win like 45 + or maybe 50 games this year if at full strength.
He was everything this team has been needing molded into one player. Whether you pin it on Portland for moving in and snagging him or on JVG for that meaningless win to close the season out, not getting Brandon Roy was unarguably the most significant event of the Yao/McGrady era.
people bring gay up because the rockets actually had him, instead of wanting. of course we would all like the rookie of the year, even over gay
LOL i was going to start a thread with the same title! But im still a rookie but i love B. Roy btw the dude has such a smooth game
+1 I believe that JVG wanted Thabo Sefolosha, if the Battier trade hadn't come along we would've either drafted Thabo with our pick or picked Gay and traded him for a lower pick + some incentive. Alston-Roy-McGrady-Scola-Yao What could have been without Portland.
Hey, you know, I heard that if you keep ass kissing veteran members and posting in the "Upgrade a rookie" thread/ and or give Clutch some sacrifices you might just get promoted.
i hate brandon roy threads simply because i'm reminded of the great jvg and all those posters who were so against tanking. what did that win against the nuggets get us?
C'mon, it's a bike. Talk about overreaction... I'm pretty sure anyone including college players exercise "hard" on a bike. He's on an EXERCISE BIKE. He's not even running, it's just pedaling. I'm not hating, but he's not doing anything extraordinary. I always hear about guys like Mike Harris who is training before the other guys show up and stays later than the other guys. Guys like Kobe, CP, and Williams are probably doing more than just going "hard" on a bike. hehehe...
