i've been thinking about this all season long.i know barkley made his stay in houston exciting and all but he did'nt accomplish what he was here to do, win a championship.i have to agree with clyde drexler when he says that they could'nt win with two demanding posts but the real reason why i think charles killed this team is this.instead of trading for charles we resign sam cassell and robert horry.we pick up kevin willis and we still have a good team and a good point guard.then we could have signed antonio mcdyess , because if you think about it he did'nt come over beacause a)charles was the forward and b)no point guard.so look at our team without ever picking up barkley. pf:antonio mcdyess/free agent? sf:robert horry/free agent? c :hakeem olajuwon /free agent? sg:steve francis/cuttino mobley pg:sam cassell/bryce drew
No, because if we didn't get Charles, and kept Cassell, there would be no Francis. He is not a 2, and Rudy didn't bring him in to do it. And there is no debating Francis by far surpasses Cassell in potential and talent. And if you have Mcdyess, you don't have Cato, Rogers, or Walt. (What we got for Pippen) So then who is your center right now, since Hakeem can't play that much? Who is the center for the future? Cato may not be an all-star yet, but he can and will be a decent center, and that is VERY hard to find in this league. You can say all you want about finding a free agent, but any decent center costs way more than than the Rockets can afford right now. (until Hakeem retires)
All I have to say to that is: 22-2 and Malone bear-hugged Drexler The first is our record out of the gate with Barkley before Dream had is knee injury and Drexler started whining with CB. The second...well we all remember how we lost in the Conf Finals right!! Barkley delivered a lot when he got here. Now go ahead and have fun taking the backseat driver GM role...your points regarding trades are valid, although you seem to pick the best ones, but to say Chuck caused the destruction....now that simply exposes you as anti-Chuck. If Malone doesn't get away with the bear hug, Utah is in an elimination game, we held a laughable margin of success in elimination games versus Utah/Malone That's why we are ClutchCity...that is why Malone had to cheat...and that is why MJ won that year...he did not have to face Barkley, Drexler, and Hakeem in a showdown of will.
I think if we had never traded for Barkley we would have had Drexler for a little longer and we we probably still have Pippen and Horry and Cassell. This would be the team. Kevin Willis/Chucky Brown Scottie Pippen/RObert Horry Dream/that's all we need since Barkley f'd up his career. Steve Francis/Shandon Anderson Sam Cassell/Moochie We would just be lacking a PF but we could have gotten a decent one in trade. This team is unstoppable! Barkley was the biggest mistake the rockets ever made.
Dreamstillkills, You guys still aren't getting it. With Cassell there is NO FRANCIS. He is not a 2 and never will be. He may play it at times in the game, but can never do it consistently. Can you imagine a backcourt of Cassell-Francis against Kidd-Penny? We'd get killed based on size. Rudy would never have brought in Francis if he needed him to play the 2. Never. And don't even bring up Pippen. If you think our team is better off with that whining, selfish, overpayed player you do not know what you are talking about. You would be tying up all your cap room for a player whose skills have greatly deteriorated and also a player that is a cancer. We have a good young team who can be great in the next decade. That lineup you came up with Pippen and Willis in addition to Dream sets us back years in rebuilding. Years. Imagine what the Rockets would be in about two years after those players retired. It hurts to think about it. Also, one quick reminder. If you keep Willis, there is no Dickerson, which in turn means no Francis. Even though it is ridiculous to say Steve is a 2, it is impossible with that lineup to have him even if he could play it.
Chuck was brought here because we could not get past Seattle. Mission accomplished, and if it were not for a last second 3 point dagger thrown by the pasty gangster, Chuck might have gotten his ring. DaDakota
Boy, is it me or does it seem like some of these topics seem to really be scraping the barrel. ------------------ I took a course in speed waiting. Now I can wait an hour in only ten minutes- Steven Wright
I know BobFinn*... I'm out of here to go start another 'anti-Dream, moody support for RudyT, no tanking but smile while we get Kenyon, I miss you Charles, trade Sampson for Drexler and MJ thread' maybe a debate as to whether Cuttino's iso is efficient would be refreshing.
Did we turn down Drexler and MJ for Sampson. Boy, can you image that: Dream Barkley McDyess Drexler Jordan We would have ruled!!!!!!!
We would have picked someone we needed instead of steve francis. All I am saying is that there would be a few more rings in the Rockets organization if we never got Barkley.
Having Jordan would suck, because he sucks. I am glad we never got him if we could have had him. Man I hate Jordan. Damn Jordan sucks. How sorry is Jordan? He is really sorry. Sorry excuse for a player. Jordan can't hold a candle to our very own Brice Drew.
IMO dadakota says it all. pasty boy and elbow malone kept charlie from getting a ring by basically cheating with thier flops and assaults, since they didn't know how else to do it. That's the only reason MJ stuck around another year-to make sure that the Spazz boys didn't get a title themselves. Everyone knows that.
no. Hakeem killed team cuz he got old...? Once he got old = no more rings. Horry sucks. Cassel is not as good as Francis. No guarrantee as to us getting McDyess. Poor Kevin Willis, now he's old too. stop the TOs baby. ------------------ "Whooaa." - Ted
My opinion on your question brahma is no. Rockets management caused the destruction themselves by trading for Chuck. We did not need him. My alternative (if we had to trade anyone) would have been to package Horry and scrubs for someone like Bo Outlaw or OT. There were plenty of forwards that could've been had that may have fit in with our team instead of nearly retooling the entire team to get Barkley. For those who'd say Steve Francis would not be in Houston had we not traded for Barkley, I say "We don't know that." Now I agree that Steve Francis is THE REAL DEAL! However, not being able to peer through the tunnel of time back when we had Sam Cassell, I would have kept him in Houston by all means necessary. When he's healthy, Sam's got game! I think he's even better than he was when he was here. Before Steve, I wonder if there was any Rockets guard not Clyde Drexler that was as good as Sam.
