I am pleased you enjoy it. My point is that Hong Kong does have her share of air pollution problem. But is is far from what some people try to make it out to be.

Did you also happen to be in Hong Kong when they had this show. I wish I was there to watch it live. The guy who needs a better camera.

I didn't get the music show, but I did enjoy the skyline. depends on where you are from. I'm from a place with extremely low pollution so the atmosphere did affect me.

well I know the pollution when i was there didn't originate from hong kong, the wind just blew it over hong kong during my stay.

Why do people make up this thread just to bash China? It must be the anti-China bashers at work again. This piece of news is not even reported anywhere else by the international media.

Somebody walk a black guy into a bar in Sanlitun yet? Or found corraborative evidence?

Hey, next time instead of stating the facts, let's see who gets rickrolled first. Debating. American style.

We thought you might handle this one -- oh wait, you don't live in China.

Since I am not black, that would be super productive wouldn't it?

And actually KingCheetah, I am in China right now. But what am I saying? Don't let facts get in the way of your bullsh1t.

I would expect nothing less than super productive from an established netizen.

I have nothing against any person or race from any country on the planet, but I just wanted to show that poster how dumb and obtuse his comments were......hence my exaggeration to the OP.

Thank you for reading between the lines Sweet Lou, I'm glad someone got it....

Let's see. You were offened by one poster who claimed to be Chinese and you decide to fight back and show all Chinese here an even more offensive one.

People are different even within a race. Just like while you are so proud of certain part of your body from your post, you probably won't bet your house on that yours is bigger than that of the Chinese who play for the Rockets. So even if the one offended you is indeed Chinese, your post was still not justified. And an simple explaination why you did it is not enough.

I think you were discreminated here. The fisrt offender was awarded "Rookie Racist b*stard", and you, the second and worse offender, has not been promoted. Not fair.

    Not all chinese, just him.......
What are you saying? Are you referring to Yao's Johnsonheimer? I would'nt bet my house, because I don't believe in stereotypes, again....satire is fun.
Right, It was satirical. I went over the top to make a joke while showing how ignorant that other post was. I would deserve to be labeled a racist if I was as "serious" as the main poster, but I was not.

He doesn't believe in those stereotypes, he's making fun of them and showing how gross the one were about blacks that the other guy made.

No one could argue that the first post didn't require to be satired because everyone understood it to be racist, but apparently knote felt it did.

Now that doesn't mean he was wrong - satire can misfire - see the new yorker cover or many of the cartoons here. They can be offensive, but I think you might want to cut the guy some slack and realize that he wasn't trying to offend you or he doesn't believe in those stereotypes.

What he intended to and what he did are two different things. You can call it misfire or whatever. But it does not change the fact that specific post was very offensive to Chinese.

What I saw was his explaination why he did that as well as appreciation of your understanding of his intention. And he did not go anything beyond that. I think an apologize to those who were offended by his "misfire" is the minimum.

It is like "well, I was trying to shot the bird and I shot you. It was not my intention, that's it."

Well, let's be sure and say that his post was offensive to SOME Chinese. Not necessarily all would be offended by it if they understood that is was satire.

I mean, i think he did say that he didn't mean to offend anyone and that he doesn't believe in those stereotypes. But whether he should apologize or not, I can't really say, it's not my place.

I am just saying that there are some real racists out there and those people are definitely nasty folks and all, but this guy isn't one of them. The stereotypes were so ludicrous that it was clearly satire. Honestly, I think a lot of it gets lost in translation if you know what I mean. He's not the guy you want to go after. I'd say you have every right to be offended, but if you really look at what he was doing - why would you be offended? If anything, he's mocking stereotypes of Asians.

Second class citizen in our own country..... I'm not justifying the poiicy if true, I think it's apalling and needs to change. But also keep in mind that there are still a quite a bit of Chinese people that actually lived through those times. And even more that hear from their parents and grand parents about those times.

There's a lot of ignorance, the cure for that is education and understanding, not spite and denounciationg. Keep in mind, there are still schools in the deep south of U.S. with color sperated proms.

I actually remember reading about it in a U.S. News and world report article a while back, also I think there was thread on this BBS.

    Some quick googling links:

    http://www.cnn.com/2003/EDUCATION/05/02/separate.proms.ap/

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/bryantpark/2008/06/integrated_prom_dances_past_bl.html

    http://drinkthis.typepad.com/shapiro/2006/03/separate_proms_.html

    http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0503-03.htm

    http://www.alternet.org/story/50987/

Though it's encouraging some of the articles are suggesting that these things are changing. My point is that these things are unacceptable, and China needs to change, but the U.S. needs to understand (and it should given it's own actions) that these take time.

I want to fast track it as much as it's realistically possible, but I don't think going straight to a high chair and start the denouciation is the way to go. Like any social disease, understand the symptoms and identify the root causes, then enacted realistic solutions.
