Greatest fight I have ever seen. I was literally up and screaming, my whole house was going crazy. Margarito looked extremely confident between rounds, and he knew exactly what he was doing the whole time. Cotto seemed to break down mentally just a little towards the final rounds, considering all the punishment he was dishing out and it never even rocked Margarito. Rematch anyone?
It is crazy to even think that these two wont go at it again. That was a classic and one of the best fights of the year.
It was amazing... Magarito got hit HARD in the face over and over and over... and he just kept coming after Cotto like some sort of horror film nightmare creature. I don't know if this fight didn't scare off some of the bigger-named and frankly, better-skilled guys out there. Before this, they (and Cotto) probably thought Magarito will get outclassed once he had to deal with a superior fighter... now, they have to be concerned about getting embarassed. Whoever does step into the ring with Magarito, though, is gonna get big PPV numbers and a good pay day-- and some serious bragging rights if they manage to stop this guy.
I would love to see that as well. I don't know if floyd would take that fight. In any case I think Margarito is just too slow for Floyd. It would be a lot of Margarito swinging and missing. I think him vs oscar would be a better fight. That would be a lot more exciting fight. They are both big fighters.
As for Mayweather, he wouldn't stand in front of him for more than 2 seconds. He'd run more than Cotto did and it would be a boring fight because Mayweather doesn't like to get hit. Floyd has superior speed with no power but his boxing skills would definitely prevail in a VERY BORING fight. I'd rather go to memorial park if I wanted to see some people running... A boxer who doesn't like to get hit is like a basketball player who doesn't like to get rebounds because he has to get physical.
Personally I think Mayweather backed out of the De La Hoya fight so he could fight the winner of Cotto/ Margarito. A win would absolutely cement Mayweather as one of the all time greats, the money would be huge, and it would give him a shot a 40-0. We'll see if it happens.
No power? Tell that to Arturo Gatti, Ricky Hatton, Jesus Chavez, Chico Corrales (RIP)... Mayweather has underrated power because he never really uses it unless he is completely physically dominating an opponent. To say mayweather has no power is ridiculous. His skill is greater than his power and so is his running ability, but he can punch with the best of them.
De la hoya said once in a hispanic magazine that he wanted to sell out Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. It was one of his dreams. The only way he can do that is if he fights margarito as his last fight. might make for some odd drama. i mean here in the u.s. de law hoya has always been a fan favorite. and he has always made it a point to appeal to the mexican people. but in mexico they HATE him. Margirito is cool and all but the dude was born in america too, hes just as american as de la hoya which makes him sound ignorant. I would be going completely for de la hoya in that match. It seems to be the one that would rake in the most attention and money. And it would be way more exciting that another worthless boring mayweather fight
Most of those fights he outclassed the other guy by so much there was no point of letting the fight go on. I don't think he has say the power of a guy like de la hoya. Mayweather should have one lose on his record, but that is boxing for you.
Refresh me - wasn't Mayweather's last fight a slug fest -- his fight vs. Oscar was dull, but Roger can go off.
I didn't realize until I just looked it up that Pavlik and Hopkins have finalized a deal to fight in October. I hope Kelly destroys him.
